Uzbekistan starts the year in a training camp in Yangiabad

The Uzbek team trains in the city of Yangiabad to prepare well to the main goals in 2017 which is the first year in the new Tokyo 2020 Olympic cycle. The top Uzbek boxers including their Olympic medallists will be attending in the preparation AOB events, in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and also in the Season VII of the World Series of Boxing in the first half of the year.
The 25th edition of the Uzbekistan National Elite Boxing Championships was held in the city of Bekabad last November where the local crowd could see 212 boxers and 202 bouts. The national coaches selected the squad among the top boxers of their last edition of the National Championships and from their Rio 2016 Olympian heroes.
Hasanboy Dusmatov claimed gold medal at the light flyweight (49kg) in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and won also the Val Barker Trophy as the best boxer of the August’s event. The Uzbek miniman is ready to continue his big things in 2017 and attending in the training camp in Yangiabad now after his Olympic successes.
Shakhobiddin Zoirov also won a title in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games where he defeated Russia’s Misha Aloian in the final of the flyweight (52kg). The 23-year-old boxer moved up to the bantamweight (56kg) and he is ready to win new titles in his new category. Uzbekistan’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games silver medallist Bektemir Melikuziev also changed his weight class, he is now at the light heavyweight (81kg) and will be hard opponent for the stars of this category.
Uzbekistan’s new sensation and flag bearer Shakhram Giyasov had a few international successes in the recent years in smaller events but he was able to do the breakthrough in 2016. The 23-year-old boxer moved up to the welterweight (69kg) in November 2015 and following his Uzbek national title he won the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event in Qian’an, China and qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Giyasov defeated all of his rivals in the road to the finals in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and he lost to only Kazakhstan’s Daniyar Yeleussinov in the gold medal bout. His silver in Rio de Janeiro was his career highlight and received the ASBC Asian Discovery of the Year Trophy.
Murodjon Akhmadaliev claimed silver medal in the Doha 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships and bronze in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at the bantamweight (56kg). As Zoirov and Melikuziev he also changed his weight class in the recent months and will be making his debut at the lightweight (60kg) soon in 2017.
Tashkent region’s Elnur Abduraimov was bronze medallist in the 2015 AIBA World Boxing Championships in Doha but could not compete in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games due Uzbekistan’s double quotas in the lightweight (60kg). The 22-year-old top WSB boxer moved up to the light welterweight (64kg) in the recent months and after his strong performance in 2016 he is also ready to do big things in 2017.
Surkhandarya region’s Rio 2016 Olympic Games quarter-finalist and AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Bakhodir Jalolov amazed the world’s boxing life in the recent two years and after his fourth national title he could be one of the key person of the super heavyweight (+91kg) in 2017.
Khorezm region’s Incheon 2014 Asian Games silver medallist Israil Madrimov moved up to the middleweight (75kg) one year ago and his decision was successful. The 21-year-old boxer was unbeaten in 2016 and has got top chances to get good results in the new year but his teammate Strandja Memorial Tournament winner Makhmud Gaipov is also dangerous for him in the middleweight (75kg).
Andizhan region’s 19-year-old Hasanboy Latibakhunov claimed gold medal in their Youth National Championships in 2015 and won the title in their Elite Nationals in 2016. Tashkent region’s Abdulkhay Sharakhmatov proved top performance in the World Series of Boxing in Season VI and delivered unbeaten performance in 2016. Both talents could be new sensations in our sport in 2017.
