Uzbekistan attends with nine boxers in the Ulan-Ude 2019 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships

The AIBA World Boxing Championships for the men’s elite boxers is just over and following Yekaterinburg, our female Asian hopes are ready to show their skills in the upcoming AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. Uzbekistan topped the team rankings in the AIBA World Boxing Championships in Yekaterinburg and their girls are aiming for their first ever medal in the history of the women’s event.
The AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships will be held in Ulan-Ude, Russia which is located near to the Mongolian boarder. Uzbekistan’s coaches selected the team for Ulan-Ude and the country will be attending almost all of the categories excluding the heavyweight (+81kg). Nine boxers will be represented Uzbekistan in the event and the average age of the team is only 22.0 years which shows their strong future potentials.
Uzbekistan attended in the Bangkok ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in April where their female boxers claimed medals. The female team of Uzbekistan competed also in the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament, the Volnova Prizes Women’s Tournament, the Republic of Kazakhstan President’s Cup and in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament.
Gulasal Sultonalieva attended in the 2018 edition of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi at the light flyweight (48kg) and she fought out her place once again and defeated in the national level Fotimakhon Tursunboyeva. Farangiz Khoshimova will be competing at the flyweight (51kg) in Ulan-Ude who remained her place after the Bangkok ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
Uzbekistan’s bantamweight (54kg) No.1, Tursunoy Rakhimova is 22 now but she won already international tournaments and waiting for the real breakthrough in the big events. Uzbekistan’s most experienced hope in the national team is three-time ASBC Asian Women’s Boxing Championships bronze medallist Yodgoroy Mirzaeva who qualified as first Uzbek female boxer to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Raykhona Kodirova is member of the Uzbek national team since 2017 and will be taking part at the lightweight (60kg) in Ulan-Ude next month. Maftunakhon Melieva has been attending in the international events since the 2013 AIBA Women’s Junior World Boxing Championships and she had close fights with the bests of the world in her division, at the light welterweight (64kg).
A new welterweight (69kg) talent, Shakhnoza Yunusova developed rapidly and she won contest already at the New Delhi 2018 AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships at the age of 19 and claimed bronze in the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Women’s Elite Boxing Championships. Mavluda Mavlonova is also only 20 and will be representing Uzbekistan at the middleweight (75kg) while Ezozakhon Melieva is aiming for a medal at the light heavyweight (81kg).
