Twelve nations shared the youth male medals in the sixth day of boxing in Amman

Twenty-eight youth quarter-final bouts were held in sixth competition day of the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan today. India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Philippines, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, and Uzbekistan won contests and guaranteed medals in the sixth competition day.

Altogether 352 boxers from 21 nations are attending in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Amman. India, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen sent their best talents to the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships.

The finals are scheduled to be held in March 13 and 14 after the rest in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships. Impressive number of 51 female and male champions will be crowned in the competition, 26 junior boxers and 25 youth athletes. Boxers who were born in 2004 and in 2005 will be eligible to attend in the ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships. The younger talents from the 2006 and 2007 age groups can compete in the junior part of the championships in Jordan.

Mongolian and Kyrgyz winners in the opening bouts

As expected, Mongolia’s Otgonbayar Tuvshinzaya won his second contest in Amman, he stopped United Arab Emirates’ Mohammed Al-Zahmi in the opening bout of the day. Kyrgyzstan’s Bekzat Ergeshov achieved silver medal at the 35kg weight class in the Kuwait City 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships and won the recent national events as junior and youth. He met with Philippines’ Reymond Lofranco who bagged also silver in Kuwait City as schoolboy but at the 46kg weight category. Both of the 16-year-old talents compete at the youth minimumweight (48kg) in Amman and they had a crucial battle in the sixth day of boxing. The final verdict was split decision in the favour of Ergeshov who bowed out a top rival in Amman.

Nortojiyev and Raman are semi-finalists at the flyweight

Following Miralijon Mavlonov’s impressive success over his Kazakh opponent at the minimumweight (48kg), Uzbekistan succeeded in the next bout. Their Khujanazar Nortojiyev is the new Youth National Champion in Uzbekistan at the flyweight (51kg) and received the right to attend in Amman. The new Uzbek talent moved forward and tried to dictate the tempo against Tajikistan’s Aslamjon Kurbonov in their quarter-final contest. The Uzbek opened the third round with tough left-handed jabs and his dominancy was clear enough to win the bout. The Uzbek boxer will now meet for the title bout with India’s Raman who knocked down Jordan’s Yazan Al-Bitar in the first round of boxing. The local pride did not give up the contest, gave in everything but Raman’s technical skills were decisive today.

Hayder Anwer Jasim Makassees is Iraq’s first youth medallist in Amman

Iraq’s Hayder Anwer Jasim Makassees achieved silver medal at the featherweight (57kg) in the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and moved down two categories in the recent months which is perfect for his physical skills. The Iraqi boxer controlled the first round against Mongolia’s Myagmarsuren Batzorig and landed the stronger punches. Makassees had the strong motivation to beat his Mongolian rival and following his quick attacks, Batzorig’s ringside abandoned the contest. The 18-year-old Iraqi talent will be meeting with Kazakhstan’s Almat Abduali in the semi-finals following his opponent eliminated Kyrgyzstan’s Kutman Kazakbayev.

Yadav and Buriboyev won tough contests at the bantamweight

India’s Anand Yadav impressed in the preliminary round of the youth bantamweight (54kg) and he continued his strong performance in the last eight against Tajikistan’s Buzurgmekhr Iksanov. The Hungarian referee counted the Tajik boy in the first round after the first strong exchanges but Iksanov had the skills to continue until the last seconds. Yadav demonstrated his speed in their quarter-final and won the bout by unanimous decision in Amman where his next opponent will be Uzbekistan’s Abduvali Buriboyev who eliminated Syria’s Mohammad Ali Baddour. The Syrian Youth National Champion is only 16, proved his excellent technical skills despite of his loss and can box in this age group in 2023 too.

Pamisa achieved the first medal for the Philippines

Philippines’ Eljay Pamisa achieved silver medal at the pinweight (46kg) in the Fujairah 2019 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and he returned to the international stage after two years. The 18-year-old Filipino competes at the youth bantamweight (54kg) currently and he was the favourite against Jordan’s Habeeb Libzo today. The Filipino southpaw worked from longer distance and he combined his right-handed jabs with left hooks which were highly effective in the Bout No.11 of the session. Pamisa produced his bets round in the third when the Filipino youngster dominated all of the exchanges and achieved the first guaranteed medal for the Southeast Asian boxing power. Pamisa will now meet for the title bout with Iran’s Nima Beygi who outpointed Kuwait’s Shabab Al-Abdullah.

Kyrgyzstan and Thailand earned the first medals at the featherweight

The featherweight (57kg) is seriously strong in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships and the first bout was a tough fight between Kyrgyzstan’s Akzhol Asylbek Uulu and Iraq’s Hussein Jasim Mohammed. The Iraqi talent landed some nice shots in their contest but the Kyrgyz Youth National Champion had better technical skills which were decisive between them today. Thailand’s Chakharin Aekpatcha is newcomer in the youth national team but he had an amazing first round against Sri Lanka’s attacking Madabawiatage Rayman. The Sri Lanka used aggressive style of boxing but Aekpatcha handled it with outstanding footwork and landed his counter-punches from several positions. The Thai talent stopped his Sri Lankan opponent in the second round and advanced to the last four. 

Bissarev and Orozbekov dominated their quarter-finals

Kazakhstan’s Akbar Bissarev is absolutely newcomer in the international events but he had a superb performance in the preliminary round of the youth lightweight (60kg). The 17-year-old Kazakh was confident against Iraq’s Mahdi Jabbar Qasim and landed more shots than his opponent in the first round. Bissarev moved forward and knew how to win this contest in the quarter-finals while he could save fuels to the later actions too. Kyrgyzstan’s ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships silver medallist Almaz Orozbekov joined to the youth age group this January and quickly won their Youth National Championships. Orozbekov dominated his contest against Nepal’s Indra Bahadur Sunar and marched to the semi-finals as third Kyrgyz youth boxer.

Abdurakhmon Yokubov earned a medal for Tajikistan

Tajikistan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Abdurakhmon Yokubov has excellent technical skills and his strength developed too in the previous months. The 17-year-old Tajik had a difficult rival, India’s Rudra Pratap Singh Dangi therefore Yokubov kept the full concentration from the first seconds. The Indian was a fighter and tried to manage their excellent meeting with strength but Yokubov had good defensive skills. The Tajik talent used virtuoso style of boxing and his technical abilities delivered for him a place in the semi-finals. Yokubov’s semi-final opponent will be Uzbekistan’s Sukhrob Aminov who eliminated Iran’s Amir Abbas Kaboudvan in the next lightweight (60kg) bout. 

Ummataliyev and Taipakov won impressive contests today

Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Javokhir Ummataliyev moved up to the light welterweight (63.5kg) and he had the chance to show his impressive technical skills in the quarter-finals before his 17th birthday. The Uzbek talent met with the best Kyrgyz youth boxer, ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships silver medallist Omar Livaza. The battle of the southpaw boxers delivered a sensational contest in Amman today which was won by the younger Uzbek over the technician Kyrgyz. Kazakhstan’s Madiyar Taipakov met with Lebanon’s new sensation, the Australian-based Ryan Khoury and he was slightly better in their exchanges to win the quarter-final.

Ahmad Nabaa won Syria’s first medal in Amman

Syria’s Mohammad Ali Baddour proved his strong development but he could not beat his Uzbek rival at the youth bantamweight (54kg) today. His teammate, Ahmad Nabaa moved forward and wanted to fight with Tajikistan’s Saddam Davlatov who achieved gold in their recent Youth National Championships. The Dushanbe-based Tajik moved back before launching his counter-attacks to stop the Syrian boxer who exceeded the previous expectations today. Nabaa came from a boxing family and he felt that he is able to win this important quarter-final contest in Amman. The Syrian used his stamina to keep his level until the last gong and won his nation’s first medal in this wonderful championship. 

Iraq’s Karrar Hayder Ismael delivered his best ever performance on Day6

Iraq’s Karrar Hayder Ismael is their experienced member in the youth national team who worked hard in the recent years to develop in all aspects of boxing. He has not only strong physical skills but good condition to use his footwork well enough in the attacks. The Iraqi talent moved a lot on feet against India’s Anjani Kumar Mumanna and took the lead on the scorecards after three minutes of boxing. The Iraqi welterweight (67kg) talent felt the support of his team and officials and delivered his best ever performance today which was enough to beat the Indian. Ismael will now meet in the semi-finals with Uzbekistan’s Fazliddin Erkinboyev who bowed out Yemen’s Esmail Zaid Al-Qassimi.

Jordan

Jordan’s Mahdi Al-Matbouli is member of a strong boxing family and his genetics paid off in the twenty-seventh bout of the session today. The Youth National Champion of the host country started with a powerful rhythm in the first round against Kyrgyzstan’s Zakir Lyalyaza who has just joined to the youth age group this January.
