Twelve nations secured at least one medal in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships

The ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships continued with its third competition day in Puerto Princesa, Philippines where 24 quarter-finals bouts have been held. The winners in all weight classes are already guaranteed medallists in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships.

The following nations achieved guaranteed medals in Puerto Princesa:
– Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan: 10 medals
– India: 8 medals
– Japan, Kyrgyzstan: 5 medals
– South Korea: 4 medals
– Thailand: 3 medals
– Chinese Taipei, Philippines: 2 medals
– Iran, Iraq, United Arab Emirates: 1 medal

The following nations won at least one contest in the third competition day of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships:
– Uzbekistan: 5 wins
– Kazakhstan: 4 wins
– Japan, Kyrgyzstan: 3 wins
– India, South Korea, Philippines: 2 wins
– Chinese Taipei, Iran, Thailand: 1 win

Pinweight (46kg):
Uzbekistan’s Mukhammadmuso Abdurakhmanov, who eliminated a tough South Korean boxer in the preliminary round, continued his winning path in Puerto Princesa on Day3. The 16-year-old Uzbek boxer was too strong for Saudi Arabia’s Turki Yahya Muhini and advanced to the semi-finals following his RSC success in the event. His semi-final opponent will be Kazakhstan’s Akilbek Mukhtarov who eliminated Kyrgyzstan’s 15-year-old Bayaman Magzymov by unanimous decision.
India’s Selay Soy is a superb talented boxer who won all of his national level contests and finally he could join to the international competitions. The 16-year-old Indian eliminated Japan’s Ruka Tagawa in the first preliminary round but he had to meet with the local favourite, Philippines’ Kenneth De La Pena. The Indian began the bout better but De La Pena found the best fighting distance in time and his counter-attacks were successful. The Filipino boxer’s hooks and uppercuts worked well and he was able to eliminate to main gold medal contender in the competition.

Flyweight (50kg):
Philippines’ John Vincent Pangga claimed several national titles during his career and he had already 87 bouts since 2011. The 15-year-old Filipino talent, who is spending his first year in the junior age group, eliminated Uzbekistan’s Heydar Aliyev Junior Cup winner Amirbek Ibodullayev in the preliminary round which was a sensational performance. The Filipino talent spent only less than two minutes in the ring when he met with United Arab Emirates’ Saif Al-Kharoosi and the referee confirmed his RSC success. The host nation’s pride will be meeting with Kazakhstan’s Junior National Champion Talgat Syrymbetov who eliminated Bhutan’s Tandin Wangchuk.
Kyrgyzstan’s Muktarbek Ibraimov has competed international events in Uzbekistan and in Kazakhstan as well with successes therefore he had great chance to get at least a medal in Puerto Princesa. The Kyrgyz boxer had to meet in the quarter-final with China’s last remained boxer Yu Haolong and tried to control the first minutes. Ibraimov was in different level than his Chinese opponent and advanced to the semi-final of the event. The Kyrgyz boxer will be facing with Thailand’s Sarawut Sukthet in the next bout.

Bantamweight (54kg):
Uzbekistan’s Rakhmatullo Toshpulatov was silver medallist in their Junior National Championships but he received the right to compete in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships. The Uzbek boxer used his height advantage against South Korea’s Han Sang Beom in the first preliminary round and he did the same against Bhutan’s Rada Wangchuk in the quarter-final. The Uzbek boxer was not only effective but his punches were too strong for Bhutan’s younger talent in the last eight. The Kyrgyz referee confirmed Toshpulatov’s RSC success in the second round which means the Uzbek talent will be fighting against Iran’s Hossein Hajiagha Barari in the semi-final.
Japan’s Kenshin Yura was not able to win their Junior National Championships but he was able to eliminate Chinese Taipei’s Chen Chin in the first preliminary round. Yura began his quarter-final against India’s Aman with a great left-handed punch and tried to continue his strong performance until the end of the final bell. The Japanese boxer, who began boxing at the age of 8, was excellent in the contest and advanced to the semi-final where his next opponent will be Kazakhstan’s Aitzhan Ashirkhan who eliminated Mongolia’s Tulga Oyunbaatar in the quarter-final.

Featherweight (57kg):
Uzbekistan’s Javlonbek Yuldashev was member of their junior national team already in 2016 and since then he moved up three weight classes. The 16-year-old Uzbek claimed silver medal in the Heydar Aliyev Junior Cup in Azerbaijan eliminated Iran’s Farhad Moradi as first. The Uzbek boxer was amazing in the quarter-final against Japan’s Kenshin Yamamura and advanced to the last four in Puerto Princesa. Yuldashev will be meeting now with India’s Ankit Narwal who eliminated Kazakhstan’s Dmitriy Barmin.
Kyrgyzstan’s Aidar Oroskulov came from a small village but he showed excellent style of boxing in the third competition day. The former Kyrgyz Schoolboys National Champion, who began boxing four years ago, launched powerful punches against Chinese Taipei’s Wu Guo Wei who eliminated Saudi Arabia’s Abdul Aziz Al-Thabit by unanimous decision in the first preliminary round. The referee counted Wu one time in their contest and Oroskulov proved he is better boxer than his Chinese Taipei opponent. Oroskulov will be boxing with South Korea’s Goh Seung Hun in the semi-final.

Lightweight (60kg):
India’s Akshay Kumar won four national events during his career and due his strong family connections to boxing, he was well prepared to the competition. The Indian southpaw eliminated Thailand’s Sumatas Ontong in the first preliminary round of the category and after that contest he had hard job against Chinese Taipei’s experienced Lin Yu. The Indian boxer was enough strong in the first part of the bout to advance to the semi-finals winning the contest by split decision. Kumar’ next opponent will be Japan’s Reito Tsutsumi who had to do his very best against Kyrgyzstan’s Nuradin Rustambek Uulu.
Kazakhstan’s Bekzat Yerimbet is not an experienced junior boxer within their squad but he proved amazing style of boxing in the first preliminary round when he eliminated South Korea’s Kang Hyeong Ho. The 16-year-old Kazakh boxer launched effective punches against Iran’s Arash Amin Torabi in their quarter-final and took the lead after two minutes of fight. Yerimbet had strong hooks and the referee had to count the Iranian talent twice therefore Kazakhstan’s new sensation will be meeting with Uzbekistan’s Sherzod Kodirbayev.

Welterweight (66kg):
Japan’s Sora Tanaka amazed the crowd when he eliminated Chinese Taipei’s Hung Sheng Po in the first preliminary round of the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships. The aggressive Japanese boxer tried to overcame in the attacks Kazakhstan’s Salimzhan Salimgereyev who moved up to the welterweight (66kg) just before the start of the competition. The Japanese talent moved forward continuously and proved he is one of the best junior boxer from his country which has been preparing for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Tanaka eliminated the Kazakh boxer and will be meeting for the final with South Korea’s Cho Hyeon Jun who stopped United Arab Emirates’ Saif Al-Riyami.
Kyrgyzstan’s Dastan Onolbekov, who trains with coach Kanybek Raimkulov in the Chui region, was not enough shape in the first round against India’s Aakash Saat Jai but he was able to change his rhythm in time in the beginning of the second. Onolbekov used his longer hands and moved confidently in their contest which delivered for him a place in the semi-final. Following his split decision victory, Onolbekov will be boxing with Uzbekistan’s Asadbek Jumaniyazov who eliminated Thailand’s Witthaya Chansom.
