Turkmenistan included three Asian medallists to their team which participates in Italy

Turkmenistan resolved their issues and the country will be able to send seven male boxers for the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event to Busto Arsizio, Italy.

Turkmenistan’s first boxer who qualified for an Olympic Games was Shokhrat Kurbanov in 1996 following the country’s separation from the Soviet Union. Their last boxer who achieved a quota for the Olympics was Azizbek Achilov at the Rio de Janeiro edition eight years ago.

Turkmenistan returned to the boxing map in June 2022 at the Elorda Cup after two and half years of break and the country sent their best boxers to the recent ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships, World Boxing Championships and Asian Games as well.

The Asian Games was the first opportunity for them to earn quotas to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and one of their young talents was near to make it happen with a bronze medal. The head coach and the management of the national team has finally selected seven boxers for the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

Daniyar Rozmetov entered the world of boxing at the age of 14 when he earned a silver medal at the 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships. The young boxer joined the elite competitions this January and he fought out his place in the national team at the men’s flyweight (51kg).

Shukur Ovezov won his first national titles as a junior still in 2016 and he represented Turkmenistan at the 2019 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and the recent World Boxing Championships in Tashkent. The 22-year-old boxer moved down to the featherweight (57kg) and he will be making his international debut in this category in Italy.

Saparmyrat Odayev bagged a fantastic silver medal at the 2018 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok which is his career highlight until today. The 23-year-old light welterweight (63.5kg) boxer competed also at the previous World Boxing Championships in Tashkent and he could be a hard opponent for the stars as well.

Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov was born in 2002 but he became the best from Turkmenistan in the Asian Games last September. The light middleweight (71kg) talent achieved a bronze medal in the Games and he would needed only one step further to qualify for the Paris Olympics but he received the right to compete for the country once again.

The 26-year-old Nuryagdy Nuryagdyyev is the most experienced national team member who will compete at the light heavyweight (80kg) in Italy. Nuryagdyyev earned a silver medal at the 2016 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships in Pavlodar and a bronze at the 2017 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Tashkent.

Artykmammet Shohratgeldiyev is a newcomer at the men’s heavyweight (92kg) and the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event will be his first huge international event. The Junior and Youth National Champion Rustem Mammedov will be turning 21 and he will compete at the super heavyweight (+92kg) in Italy.
