Top female boxers as Ruan Mulan, Volosenko and Khalzova won gold medals in Urumqi

China’s Ruan Mulan and Kazakhstan’s duo as Rimma Volosenko and Valentina Khalzova were among the winners at the women’s elite finals in the famous Belt & Road Festival in the city of Urumqi.

The 3rd Belt & Road International Youth Boxing Gala took place in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. The Belt & Road International Boxing Festival included international training camp, competition for elite, U19 and U17 boxers as well.

The Chinese Boxing Federation and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Municipal Government were the organizers of the Festival.

Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, Cuba, Greece, Hungary, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Yemen all decided to send strong teams in Urumqi.

China’s Xiong Guanxia earned the first title in women’s boxing, she defeated Xiong Guanyun at the women’s light flyweight (50kg) final.

One of the veterans in Kazakhstan, the former ASBC Asian Champion and the World silver medallist Zhaina Shekerbekova bagged the next gold medal in Urumqi where she defeated her teammate from Astana, Saniya Sultankyzy.

Henan’s National Champion and member of the national squad, Ruan Mulan defeated Sichuan’s Yu Yongfang in the semi-finals of the women’s elite featherweight (57kg) and she continued her winning path against Guangdong’s Li Zijun in the final.  

Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Champion Rimma Volosenko and China’s World Champion Yang Wenlu advanced to the finals of the women’s lightweight (60kg). The 33-year-old Volosenko walked over to the title of the category following that Yang was unable to compete against her in the day of the finals.

China’s Henan-based Li Shu eliminated Kazakhstan’s former ASBC Asian Champion Madina Nurshayeva in the semi-finals of the women’s welterweight (66kg) and she had the perfect performance to beat Ni Boya for the gold medal.

Kazakhstan’s former World Champion Valentina Khalzova returned to the international events after a short break and she had a tight success over China’s Wang Xiaomeng, the bronze medallist from the 2025 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. Her veteran teammate, another World Champion from 2016, Lazzat Kungeibayeva won the heaviest female category in Urumqi.
