Timor Leste made its historic debut in the Astana

Timor Leste made its debut at the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan today which is a historic participation for the developing Southeast Asian country.

Antonio Nicolau Hau Da Silva is the first ever boxer from Timor Leste who competes in an ASBC Asian Boxing Championships. Timor Leste participated only in the previous editions of the Southeast Asian Games taking a few medals on these occasions and in some of the boxing events of the Asian Games.

The 22-year-old Da Silva is their most experienced boxer in this age group and the minimumweight (48kg) talent was highly competitive against Mongolia’s Tuvshinzaya Otgonbayar. Da Silva moved forward more in the second round and he had nice hooks but the Mongolian had the routine to handle the tactical jobs in this fight.

Da Silva lost this Round of 16 preliminary contest in Astana but he proved his talent in our sport and he made a history for Timor Leste.
