Three-time Olympian Sailom Ardee has done world class performance in the Thailand Open Boxing Tournament on Day2

The Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament delivered its second competition day with 24 contests which were held in two sessions. Thailand’s three-time Olympian Sailom Ardee has done world class performance in the second competition day when Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Croatia, Indonesia, Jordan and Chinese Taipei also won contests on Day2.
Altogether 127 men elite boxers are attending in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament in Bangkok from three different continents. The winners of today’s contests advanced to the quarter-finals of the event.
Sri Lanka’s Vidanalage Ishan Roshan Bandara was bronze medallist in the Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast this April and started his first contest against Laos’s 18-year-old Akkhasith Viengxay. Sri Lanka’s flyweight (52kg) No.1 moved ahead from the first seconds but his Southeast Asian teenage opponent was also quick in the opening minutes. Viengxay injured in the end of the first round and Bandara was able to go through to the quarter-finals.
DPR Korea’s Ri Myong Ryong is a 22-year-old talent who claimed medals in their recent national events but the Thailand Open Boxing Tournament is his first international competition. The North Korean flyweight (52kg) boxer looked quicker and landed high number of clear punches in the opening round against Hong Kong’s Tam Chun Hin. Ri was better than his opponent from Hong Kong technically but Tam survived the dangerous moments and the North Korean boxer was able to win only by scoring decision.
The Al-Matbouli family is famous of their tradition in boxing, their new young hope Ahmad eliminated Mauritius’ former AFBC African Champion Jean John Colin as first at the lightweight (60kg). The 21-year-old Jordanian had a tough opponent from Japan as second, Rentaro Kimura is an experienced boxer in spite of his young age. The Japanese boxer caught Al-Matbouli in the second round with a tough punch and moved forward to control their bout. Kimura had better footwork in the final round and won their close contest by split decision.
Philippines’ former ASBC Asian Youth Champion James Palicte claimed silver medal in the Korotkov Memorial Tournament in Russia a few weeks ago. The 24-year-old Filipino lightweight (60kg) boxer tried to control the first round against Chinese Taipei’s Lai Chu En with his strong motivation. The Rio 2016 Olympian Lai moved back before launching his counter-punches but he was too far to reach Palicte. The Filipino boxer did enough in the three rounds to eliminate his tough rival in Bangkok.
Mongolia’s Battumur Misheelt was silver medallist in the Indian Open Boxing Tournament and also in the Ulaanbaatar Box Cup in 2018. The 21-year-old Mongolian lightweight (60kg) boxer moved closer to Slovenia’s Tadej Cernoga after the first minute and landed nice hooks in the target area. The young Mongolian moved more on feet in the second round and his strength was uncomfortable for the Slovenian boxer. Misheelt impressed in the third round and he was able to beat his Slovenian opponent by unanimous decision.
Thailand’s Yutapong Sekadon received the right to represent his country at the Thailand Open Boxing Tournament only in the final minute. Sekadon, who is No.2 at the welterweight (69kg) behind three-time Olympian Sailom Ardee, eliminated Indonesia’s Southeast Asian Games silver medallist Saroha Tua Lumbantobing in the first preliminary round and he repeated that performance in his next appearance against Qatar’s Rio 2016 Olympian Thulasi Tharumalingam.
Vietnam’s Tran Duc Tho is the defending National Champion at the welterweight (69kg) who used his power to control the first round against Bhutan’s Sangay Wangdi. The Ho Chi Minh City-based boxer had better punches and the referee counted Wangdi in the second round. Bhutan’s international boxer found the best range only a few times against his Vietnamese southpaw rival. Tran started the third round with clear uppercuts and won their contest by unanimous decision in Bangkok.
South Korea’s Lim Hyun Chul was silver medallist in the Incheon 2014 Asian Games and moved up to the welterweight (69kg) only in the recent months. The 23-year-old Korean boxer moved ahead but his opponent from Myanmar, Myo Kyaw Thu was competitive in the first round. Myanmar’s best boxer has got the potential but he is in lack of experiences in the international level yet. Lim launched more punches in the second and third rounds therefore his hand was raise after the last gong.
Philippines’ Marvin Tabamo replaced Ian Clark Bautista and Rogen Ladon in their national team and tried to keep his control from the first seconds until the last against Mauritius’ Jean David Rolfo in his preliminary contest at the flyweight (52kg). The Filipino boxer moved ahead but his Mauritian opponent was a hard target for him in the first round. The 21-year-old Filipino talent was more efficient from the second round and he was able to eliminate his African rival winning the bout by unanimous decision.
Jordan’s Abdallah Al-Daraghmeh was involved to the national team in 2016 and he competed also in the AIBA Asian & Oceanian Olympic Qualification Event. The 22-year-old flyweight (52kg) boxer tried to move closer to Bhutan’s Tenzin Drugyel in the first round. Jordan’s pride attacked from the first seconds and he tried to pressurize his opponent from Bhutan who attended in the 2016 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships. The final verdict was unanimous decision to the Jordanian boxer in Bangkok.
Iran’s Armin Amjadian has been competing in the international level since 2009 when he was a junior talent but after two years of break he regained his place in the national team. The 25-year-old Iranian lightweight (60kg) boxer used a tricky style in the first round against Indonesia’s experienced Farrand Papendang who attended in the recent two editions of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships. Amjadian was a hard target but the Indonesian boxer caught him with body punches in the second. Papendang was the attacker in the third round and he was able to eliminate his Iranian rival by split decision.
Thailand’s Somchai Wongsuwan claimed bronze medal in the 2014 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and since then he became their top elite lightweight (60kg) boxer. The 21-year-old Thai talent eliminated Nepal’s National Champion Ek Bahadur Ghale on Day1 and met with Bhutan’s Samdrup Tshering in the last 16. Thailand’s lightweight (60kg) talent shared his power well in the three rounds and bowed out his rival from Bhutan.
Thailand’s three-time Olympian Sailom Ardee is one of the strongest welterweight (69kg) boxers in the whole world who impressed in the first round against Philippines’ Joel Bacho. The Thai boxer enjoyed the contest well and he used his tricky style from the second round in their top level bout. Ardee impressed with his top performance and played with his Filipino rival therefore his hand was raised after the final gong.
Iran’s super talented ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist Sajjad Kazemzadeh has got big potentials at the welterweight (69kg) who used his long distance counter-attacking tactic against Japan’s Nobuhiro Hiranaka. The 22-year-old Iranian landed clear punches but strong Hiranaka was also able to reach Kazemzadeh in the first round. The Persian boxer was a hard target in the third round and Kazemzadeh was able to celebrate after the final gong.
Croatia sent two boxers to the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament to Bangkok and their first athlete who had to fight in the event was Mate Rudan at the welterweight (69kg). The Croatian WSB boxer was too strong for Singapore’s Dhinesh Kumar who attended in the St. Petersburg 2016 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships. Rudan knocked down his rival three-times and the referee confirmed his RSC success in the second round of their contest.
