The Youth World Champion Torekhan Sabyrkhan won his first elite bout at the Kazakhstan National Championships in Karagandy

Following their junior and youth events, the Kazakhstan Elite National Championships has started in the city of Karagandy.

Karagandy hosts usually the Galym Zharylgapov Memorial Tournament in the month of December but the regional federation supported to arrange the Kazakhstan Elite National Championships as one of the last events of the year.

The Kazakh elite boxers impressed in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships earning several titles in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Their boxers also achieved medals in the recent Paris Olympic Games earlier this summer.

Akmola region’s 24-year-old Timur Kabdeshov had a tight success over Mangystau region’s Samat Zhetibayev in the first bout of the entire competition and he joined the next stage of boxing in Karagandy.

One of the favourites of the bantamweight (54kg), the ASBC Asian U22 Champion Nursultan Altynbek had a close first round against the younger Uslam Seksenbayev but the 21-year-old Kyzyl-Orda region’s boxer had the speed to decide the bout.

Pavlodar region’s Serik Temirzhanov, the Tokyo Olympian, moved back to the lightweight (60kg) which is perfectly fit for his physical conditions. The 26-year-old boxer followed his coach, Mr. Azamat Makazhanov’s instructions, and he managed to beat Mukhammedali Sydyk of Akmola region by large margin of difference.

The next favourite of the lightweight (60kg), the World Championships competitor Talgat Syrymbetov lives and trains in the Karagandy region therefore he was highly motivated on his opener against Nurbolat Bekbauov.

One of the top talents not only in Kazakhstan, but in the entire globe, the 18-year-old Torekhan Sabyrkhan also opened his campaign in his first elite competitions. The Youth World Champion was too fast for Akmola region’s Aybek Tulegenov in the first bout of the men’s welterweight (67kg) and he proved his amazing skills in Karagandy as well.

Yelnur Suyunbay, the 2021 Youth World silver medallist, dominated his first preliminary bout against Raiymbek Amantayev and his opponent abandoned that fight. Turkestan region’s Bakhtiyar Anarbayev, the next 19-year-old talent, also managed his pathway to the next stage, after beating Nurkadam Abdresh.

Almaty’s Nurbek Mursal was silver medallist at the 2022 Youth World Boxing Championships in La Nucia but the 19-year-old boxer was not able to use his longer reach well enough to beat Dilshat Nurym at the welterweight (67kg) opener.

Sanatali Toltayev returned to the national events and the 25-year-old experienced boxer had a successful opening bout against Arkhat Turgynbek at the welterweight (67kg). Another returning boxer, the Youth Olympics silver medallist Talgat Shayken impressed also in his first preliminary bout at the light middleweight (71kg).
