The young Pavithran Rajini Kanth is a finalist at the 35th Penang Pesta Tournament

The best local hope, Pavithran Rajini Kanth marched to the finals of the 35th Penang Pesta International Tournament in Malaysia.
The Penang Amateur Boxing Association was established in 1951 and their staff has been organizing the Penang Pesta Tournament since 1989.
Boxers from the U22 age group are eligible to participate in the upcoming event which means the 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 born pugilists can test themselves in Penang.
The island of Penang is one of the boxing capitals in Malaysia, the region hosted several national competition and international events in the last decade.
The elite male boxers will be able to compete in the following weight categories: 48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63.5kg, 67kg, 71kg, 75kg, 80kg, 86kg and 92kg.
Pavithran Rajini Kanth is one of the aces in the Penang Pesta International Tournament but he had a tough first round against Indonesia’s Anas Risky Syahputra in their flyweight (51kg) semi-final bout. The Malaysian younger switched into a higher tempo in the second round and the referee stopped his opponent after his heavy punches.
Chinese Taipei’s Hsu Yan Wen started the first round well against Malaysia’s Penang-based Muhammad Qarey Myqaeel Bin Mohamed Faizal and his strategy paid off in this flyweight (51kg) semi-final bout. Hsu Yan Wen will now meet for the title of the competition with Pavithran Rajini Kanth which bout could be the highlight of the finals.
Syafi Syamil Bin Ahmad Faizal stopped Santhos Thirumalai in the quarter-finals of the men’s featherweight (57kg) and he continued his winning path against Indonesia’s Dafa Farel Azmi in Penang. Syamil will be boxing for the gold medal with Anreas Moa Erik who had a stoppage victory against Singapore’s Joseph Nikhil James.
Louis Bin Saulus was the next winner in the fourth competition day, he eliminated Singapore’s Gerald Chee Meng Ee in a clear success. The Perak-based boxer can expect a hard light welterweight (63.5kg) final against Adlee Raiyan Shah Bin Syaaban Irwan Shah.
