The top 16 Indian boxers will be attending in the 52-days long European training camp to prepare for 2021

India is one of the Asian boxing powers which decided to continue its activities and increase their international relations to support their boxers’ developments. The best six elite female and ten male Indian boxers will be attending in European training camps and events until December 5 to prepare well to the World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

Boxing Federation of India had a Special General Meeting in New Delhi to decide a few important management and electoral questions one month ago and during the online meeting the President of BFI Mr. Ajay Singh and the board members decided a European tour. A possibility to send their elite national team for 45 days of European tour has been announced during the Special General Meeting and its length was increased up to 52 days.

India’s best boxers and coaches are in the 52 days long trip away from their home to keep the world class level of their hopes. India qualified already nine boxers including four girls to the Tokyo Olympic Games through the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which was held in Amman, Jordan on March 2020.

The Indian boxers will be training in Assisi which is located in the Umbria region of Italy and its camp is well-equipped. The European Boxing Academy is also under development in the city of Assisi which is the headquarter of the European Boxing Confederation. The Italian and many European teams are common participant in the Assisi training camp.

The first edition of the Alexis Vastine Memorial Tournament will be held in Nancy, France on October 28-31 and the Indian team registered to attend in the international event. Alexis Vastine was bronze medallist at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and died in a helicopter crash five years ago. The French Boxing Association decided to launch an international event to remember his greatness and nice personality.

Altogether 6 women and 10 men boxers are involved to the Indian national team who will be attending in the European tour until the first week of December. The delegation contains altogether 28 members with their coaching, official and medical staffs together to follow all safety and healthy instructions besides to the training. The boxers were in training in Patiala since August and has done impressive physical preparations. India’s six-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte infected by Dengue fever in the recent weeks and she decided not to travel to Europe. Asian Games winner Amit Panghal and medallists from the last ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships as Ashish Kumar and Satish Kumar are in good shape and will be there in the European training camps.
