The Technical Delegate of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships, Mr. Walid Jarrar – The money prizes increased the level of the competition

The first continental event of the year, the ASBC Asian Elite Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships finished in Dubai, United Arab Emirates where Mr. Walid Jarrar of Jordan worked as Technical Delegate of the competition. The experienced official led the team of the ITOs and Referees & Judges in Dubai and after the event he summarized his experiences.

“I worked in Dubai as the Technical Delegate of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. The event has been relocated from Delhi to Dubai and the local organizers have done a great job for arranging this event in a short time. This ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships was the first boxing tournament in Asia in 2021 due to the current situation which affects the whole world.

The Grand Opening Ceremony had fantastic music, impressive lights and I believe that everybody in the venue delighted to watch the show. The team’s hotel located in the venue therefore there were not any transportation requirement in the event and we could minimalize the risk of the infections.

The importance of this boxing event was the last stoppage for the Asian boxers before the Tokyo Olympic Games to check their current level. ASBC President Mr. Anas Alotaiba urged all of the Asian National Federations to participate in this championships but many of them had difficulties to attend. We missed several countries in the event such as China, Thailand, DPR Korea, Japan, South Korea, Jordan, Chinese Taipei, Syria, Turkmenistan and other nations.

I was not surprised regarding the level of the Uzbek, Kazakh, Indian and Mongolian boxers, they are highly competitive. I was surprised with the development of Iran and Afghanistan in Dubai. Their boxers are strong but they have to still work on their technical and tactical skills while Philippines and Tajikistan have done also good job in Dubai.

The work of the Referees & Judges was good, and I believe that the results were correct and luckily we had many close contests during the event. The ITOs had a very good work in the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships but we need more R&J Evaluators as we had difficulties with the bout reviews during the finals.

The money prizes increased the level of the competition and I would like to thanks for Mr. Anas Alotaiba and the ASBC management for their sincere efforts hosting this championship in Dubai. Safety of all participants was a priority during the event therefore we had special rules,” said Mr. Walid Jarrar of Jordan after the competition.
