The SEA Games medallist Khamphouvanh Khamsathone is on the top at the Laos National Championships

Laos Amateur Boxing Federation arranged its National Elite Championships at the National Sports Institute in the recent days. Four girls and eight boys earned their gold medals including their most experienced international boxer, Khamphouvanh Khamsathone.

The Southeast Asian country competed in the SEA Games in 2023 and their athletes bagged three bronze medals in Phnom Penh. Altogether 26 women and 60 men boxers competed from 16 different clubs in the new edition of the Elite National Championships.

Army’s Nouning Inthavong competed already in the 2018 edition of the National Championships and she regained her throne at the women’s minimumweight (48kg) following her success over Aksone Kamkeo.

Army’s Minavanh Oupaxa and Sith Phoxay Club’s Pany Boonmixay both represented Laos at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games and both girls defeated their final opponents, Nongsa Sihabout and Southida Chanthasone.

Sport Institute Club’s Santi Xayyasone earned the first male title of the National Championships, he is a new face in the country’s boxing life, but he managed to win his final over Kabo Lee at the minimumweight (48kg).

Their best male boxer, Army’s Khamphouvanh Khamsathone, the medallist from the Southeast Asian Games, was dominant in the flyweight (51kg) final against Somsanouk Sibounheuang. The 26-year-old boxer won two contests at the 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Bangkok and that is the country’s best achievement in the previous one decade.

Sport Institute Club’s Vanesy Heuangthisuan competed for Laos at the Asian Games in Hangzhou and he triumphed over Fasay Intalaphet at the bantamweight (54kg). Another Asian Games competitor, the 19-year-old Souliya Khammy also moved up one category in this Nationals and he won the lightweight (60kg) against Mee Somvichith.

Police Club’s Souksakhone Phoumsavane (57kg), Sikeut’s Sayfone Kongmanichanh (63.5kg), another Policeman Anong Teunchaleune (67kg) and Wusu Boxing Club’s Donchanh Phetmala (71kg) won the remaining male titles in Vientiane.
