The Sarawak Open Boxing Championships will take place on August 19-23

The next edition of the Sarawak Open Boxing Championships will be held on August 19-23 in Malaysia and the competition is open not only for the Malaysians but also for other National Federations as well.
The date of the arrivals with the Technical Meeting is August 18, the competition period is August 19-22, while the departures are on the 23rd.
The Open Boxing Championships will be held in the Sri Aman Sarawak Indoor Stadium. The purpose of the competition is to promote Sarawak’s tourism and boxing, additionally to prepare for the next events including the Sukma 2026.
The organizers of the new competition are the Sarawak State Boxing Association (SABA), the Ministry of Youth & Sports & Entrepreneur Development Sarawak (MYSED) and the Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS).
Sri Aman is located in East Malaysia, off the river of Lupar, 193km far from the city of Kuching which is the capital of Sarawak State. Sri Aman is famous of its agricultural products such as pepper, oil palm, timber, spices and rubber.
The local organizer is Mr. Dato Rahman Lariwoo, the President of the Sarawak Regional Boxing Association who worked hard in the recent years to increase the popularity of boxing in the state with this new Sarawak Open.
The competition will be held for the schoolboys, junior, youth, U22 and elite boxers as well in Sarawak and the region has also several Malaysian national champions.
The women boxers can also join the Sarawak Open Boxing Championships and they are in developing stage in Malaysia. The region of Sarawak has just started the development of women’s boxing two years ago but nowadays they have around 30 active female boxers who are practicing day by day.
The last edition of the Sarawak Open Boxing Championships took place on May 2024 and the total number of boxers was 252 in Malaysia.
Sarawak state has altogether 14 boxing centres and they have more than 200 male boxers in these gyms with the leading of a coach from the Philippines.
