The Miroshnichenko Junior Memorial Tournament is underway in Kostanay  

After the Bektas Abubakirov & Yeleussiz Kydyralin Memorial Tournament, another event, the Miroshnichenko Junior Memorial Tournament started in Kazakhstan. The city of Kostanay is famous of its competitions, and their next, the Miroshnichenko Tournament is another option for the next generation of boxers in Kazakhstan and other countries as well.

The city of Kostanay is one of the important boxing regions in Kazakhstan and their management already decided to host three international competitions in 2024. Mrs. Svetlana Mahleyt is the engine and the main organizer of the events in Kostanay, which have been added to the 2025 International Boxing Calendar.

Their first international competition in 2025 the city of Kostanay is the annual Aleksandr Miroshnichenko Junior Memorial Tournament. The competition is being held for the 2009 and 2010 born boxers in Kostanay with the participation of some very experienced talents.

The junior competition was named after Mr. Aleksandr “Alex” Miroshnichenko, who claimed a bronze medal at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games and a silver at the Moscow 1989 World Boxing Championships. The super heavyweight boxer who represented the Soviet Union during his successful career, died in Kostanay in 2003.

The junior international competition is underway in 14 weight classes: 44kg, 46kg, 48kg, 50kg, 52kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg, 63kg, 66kg, 70kg, 75kg, 80kg and +80kg. The total number of boxers is 102 in the event and the lightweight (60kg) is the most popular division with the participation of 12 pugilists.

Iraq sent for the very first time six boxers to the Miroshnichenko Junior Memorial Tournament and all of them impressed in the first sessions of the events. Their Sajjad Hayder Zghair stopped his Russian opponent, Pavel Ulayev from Magnitogorsk in the quarter-finals of the lightweight (60kg).

Kostanay’s best junior hopes such as Danil Zhutov (46kg), Sultan Zhakupov (60kg), Vyacheslav Kim (60kg), Ivan Ishin (63kg), Omar Dikhan (63kg), David Yasinskiy (66kg) and Dmitriy Trayd (70kg) all succeeded in the quarter-finals.
