Aziz Klychev amazed once again

Turkmenistan’s Aziz Klychev eliminated an Uzbek opponent in the preliminary stage at the featherweight (57kg) but he had another tough challenge in this championship against Kazakhstan’s Bek Zholdasbek. The 18-year-old Turkmen, who began his boxing career in Turkmenabat, used his long-distance tactics from the first seconds and landed several counter-punches. Zholdasbek tried to make more pressure on him in the second and third rounds but Klychev was slightly better today. Turkmenistan’s youth No.1 will be meeting for the final Philippines’ John Paul Napoles who had a surprise success over Thailand’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Thanaphansakon Kalaseeram.

Horie and Anarbayev were confident at the lightweight

Japan’s Akito Horie impressed in the first preliminary round on Day2 but he had to meet against a more difficult opponent, Thailand’s ASBC Schoolboys bronze medallist Phisit Paochanthuek. The Japanese southpaw jumped into a closer range and landed his quick jabs in the first round which paid off on the judges’ scorecards. Horie was more energetic in the second round and his combinations were decisive to win the bout earlier than the final gong. Kazakhstan’s Bakhtiyar Anarbayev had to do his very best already in the quarter-finals against Chinese Taipei’s Tsai Chen Yu and he will fight with Horie as next.

Torekhan Sabyrkhan used his virtuoso skills to win his quarter-final

Kazakhstan’s two-time ASBC Asian Junior Champion Torekhan Sabyrkhan was better in the exchanges than Uzbekistan’s Kakhramonjon Fozilov when he was moving without any stoppage. The strong Uzbek had some shots in the corners but the 17-year-old Sabyrkhan’s technical skills were decisive in the first round. The Kazakh joined the youth age group this January but he shared his power well enough and his best was the third round. Sabyrkhan’s semi-final opponent will be Jordan’s tall Omar Al-Hadidi who had a tight victory over Thailand’s Rittinan Nuimang in the next light welterweight (63.5kg) contest.

Yashwardhan Singh marched to the semi-finals

India’s Yashwardhan Singh started his career with a gold medal at the 2019 ASBC Asian Schoolboys Boxing Championships in Kuwait City. The 17-year-old Indian had a competitive rival, United Arab Emirates’ Abdulla Alshehi who is their best boxer in this age group and he landed also good shots in the opening round. Singh won all of the three rounds in their quarter-final but Alshehi has also strong future potential in our sport. The Indian light welterweight (63.5kg) boxer will now meet for the title bout Japan’s Masatake Yoshizumi who bowed out Chinese Taipei’s Su Zheng Zhe.

Mursal and Boltayev both advanced to the semi-finals of the welterweight

Kazakhstan’s Nurbek Mursal claimed a silver medal at the 2022 Youth World Boxing Championships in La Nucia and he ruled the middle of the ring in the first round against Japan’s High School Champion Moeto Kawamura. The 18-year-old Kazakh had a tactical first round but from the beginning of the second, he delivered his very best in the front of the home crowd. Mursal’s single jabs were punctual in the second part of the bout and he won their quarter-final by unanimous decision. The Kazakh will be meeting with Uzbekistan’s powerful ASBC Asian Junior Champion Shavkatjon Boltayev which could be one of the most anticipated contests in the semi-finals.

Chinese Taipei’s Chuang Chuan Hung earned a medal in Astana

Chinese Taipei’s Chuang Chuan Hung used his aggressive style of boxing against Thailand’s newcomer in the youth national team, Aiamram Phuthanet. Chuang landed several uppercuts in the third round and his in-fighting style of boxing was uncomfortable for Phuthanet in this welterweight (67kg) quarter-final bout. His teammate, Lin Jun Zhang was not able to repeat that performance, his opponent from Kyrgyzstan, Vadim Baurin stopped him in the opening round in their light middleweight (71kg) quarter-final.

Kazakhstan’s Islam Sovetov earned his next medal

Kazakhstan’s Islam Sovetov was member of the youth national team at the age of 17 in 2022 and he earned several medals during his appearances in the international stage. He is one of the favourites for the gold medal at the light middleweight (71kg) and he was too smart for South Korea’s Park Gyu Bin. India’s experienced ASBC medallist Malik Preet and Tajikistan’s powerful Bakhrombek Khatamov both won their contests in this weight class with confidence today.

The Youth World Champion Erkinboyev destroyed his Korean rival

Uzbekistan’s Fazliddin Erkinboyev is the Youth World Champion and ASBC Asian Youth Champion therefore he was too experienced for South Korea’s Bang Keong Ho today. The Uzbek middleweight (75kg) boxer was highly confident in this quarter-final bout and his shots were decisive in the second round. The Uzbek star can expect a more difficult contest in the semi-final where his next opponent will be Kazakhstan’s Aldiyar Abdillayev. Vietnam’s Pham Dang Luu and Turkmenistan’s Yhlas Bagtyyarov are the further medallists in this weight class.

Kazakhstan’s Daulet Tulemissov had a quick success at the light heavyweight

Kazakhstan’s Youth World silver medallist Daulet Tulemissov has four years of international experience in our sport and he is one of the local stars. The 18-year-old boxer moved up to the light heavyweight (80kg) this year but he proved his strength against Chinese Taipei’s Yu Yi Sheng and he had an early RSC triumph in this fight. South Korea’s Kim Min Seong, Kyrgyzstan’s Mukhamed Dursunov and Uzbekistan’s Youth World Champion Javokhir Ummataliyev were the further winners in the quarter-finals.
