The junior review of the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships 2022 – Fantastic bouts in Amman and new talents shined in the junior finals

The 26 junior finals were held in the eleventh competition day of the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan after the rest day. The junior boxers proved they could be the future of the Asian continent, many of these young talents did not celebrate their 16th birthday yet but showed the level of the elite athletes. 

The younger talents from the 2006 and 2007 age groups could compete in the junior part of the championships in Jordan. Thirteen female and thirteen male boxers earned their titles in the junior part of the competition from the pinweight (46kg) up to the heavyweight (+80kg). Uzbekistan topped the team rankings in the junior age group ahead of India, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Iran.

Uzbekistan achieved eleven gold medals in the ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and became the number one team in all rankings and medal standings. India earned eight titles in the competition while Kazakhstan claimed six gold medals in the Jordan’s capital. Thailand won a historical gold medal in the junior part of the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships.  

Jordan earned record number of eleven junior medals in the front of the home crowd including three silver medals. Among them, the host nation could get two in the women’s part of the championship, which is a historical step for the country. Kyrgyzstan bagged seven medals in Amman and reached similar results as in the Dubai 2021 edition. Yemen, Kuwait and Syria also won junior contests in Amman at the very first time, which shows their progress in our sport.

Altogether 355 boxers from 21 nations attended in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Amman. Among them 175 athletes competed in the junior age group in the championship which was progress in comparison to the last Dubai 2021 edition. Altogether 55 female junior boxers and 120 male athletes competed for the 26 available titles. The men’s junior light flyweight (48kg) was the most crowded category with the participation of 13 athletes in Amman.

Finally, India, Iran, Iraq, host Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Palestine, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen sent their best talents to the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships.

Uzbekistan’s Junior National Champion Jasmin Tokhirova was able to turn back her final contest achieving the first title of the whole championships in Amman. One of the youngest winners in the junior age group was India’s Vini who is only 14 but she has already seven years of experiences in the sport.

India’s Nikita Chand won the gold medal at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and she repeated that gold medal at the lightweight (60kg). Kazakhstan’s Aruzhan Zhangabayeva bagged her second title in the ASBC Asian Women’s Junior Boxing Championships after the Dubai edition, she defended her throne at the welterweight (66kg). Uzbekistan’s reigning ASBC Asian Junior Champion Oysha Toirova dominated  the women’s light middleweight (70kg) and she became the third female boxer who won her category once again after the last 2021 edition.

India’s Krrish Pal defeated Thailand’s Kangpi Bonkhunthod and Tajikistan’s lone finalist on Day11, Anushervon Fazylov earning the title at the junior pinweight (46kg). Aidar Kadyrkhan delivered Kazakhstan’s first junior male title in the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships. Thailand’s technician Thanaphansakon Kalaseeram amazed in the final of the bantamweight (54kg) and delivered a historical junior gold medal for Thailand.  

Kazakhstan’s Torekhan Sabyrkhan claimed gold medal at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and he stopped a star, Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian Schoolboys Champion and the winner of the Commonwealth of Independent States Junior Games Farrukh Tulaganov in the exciting final of the men’s featherweight (57kg).
