The Iranian team trains together with the Uzbeks in Yangiabad to prepare well to the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships

The Iranian national boxing team arrived to Uzbekistan’s training centre to Yangiabad to prepare well to the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. The joint training and sparring camp support both countries’ boxers in the final part of the preparation for the continental event which moved to Dubai.

The Iranian Boxing Federation is planning to send eight male boxers to the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships including their two Olympic quota holders, Daniyal Shakhbakhsh and Seyed Shahin Mousavi. Their boxing team will be covering the 52kg, 60kg, 64kg, 69kg, 75kg, 81kg, 91kg and +91kg weight categories in Dubai.

Uzbekistan’s national training camp is located in Yangiabad in the mountain area which is perfect for the athletes’ physical conditions. Many of the national teams visited Yangiabad in the recent years to train together with the strong Uzbeks such as Cuba, England, Kazakhstan and Hungary.

A former super heavyweight (+91kg) boxer, Mr. Alireza Esteki is the head coach of the Iranian elite national team who selected the squad for Dubai. Mr. Gholamreza Karimi, Mr. Homayoun Amiri and Mr. Mahmoud Nohtani are the coaches who support Mr. Esteki’s work in the national team. Mr. Amiri claimed bronze medal at the 1999 Asian Boxing Championships in Tashkent and returned to Uzbekistan as a coach. The Iranian boxers ranked 16th in the medal table of the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships with one bronze. Their goal in the upcoming Dubai 2021 edition is to reach better performance and prove their developments. Following their national training camps, common preparation with the Syrian boxers, the Iranians can stay in Uzbekistan before the start of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
