The Indian team prepares in the Italian Training Camp in Assisi for the Tokyo Olympic Games

The Indian boxing team has been preparing with full speed to the upcoming Tokyo Olympic Games in Assisi, Italy where their stars are increasing their physical conditions, technical and tactical skills. India’s best hopes in the Olympic Games will be Amit Panghal, Manish Kaushik, Vikash Krishan Yadav, Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte, Lovlina Borgohain and Simranjit Kaur Baath.
Assisi is located in the Umbria region of Italy where all of the facilities are perfect for the international teams. The Indian delegation contains 17 boxers including their 9 Olympians and some additional talents to feel the atmosphere which is impressive decision from the Boxing Federation of India.
India qualified nine boxers for the Olympic Games through the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which took place in Amman, Jordan on March 2020. The country expected to get more spots for the Tokyo Olympics but the World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event was cancelled.
India’s first ever Olympic medal was achieved by Vijender Singh at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games which was followed another bronze earned by their legend Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte at the London 2012 Olympics. The country’s target is to get medals in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics and their management used the last edition of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships as preparation for that.
India’s six-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte earned plenty of big titles during her career but she claimed only silver in Dubai on May. The 38-year-old flyweight (51kg) boxer trains hard to achieve something impressive in the Tokyo Olympic Games. AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Simranjit Kaur Baath will represent India at the lightweight (60kg).
Lovlina Borgohain claimed two bronze medals for India at the welterweight (69kg) in the last editions of the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in New Delhi and in Ulan-Ude. Her weight category is strong but the 24-year-old boxer is expecting good results in the Olympics, same as her teammate, Pooja Rani (75kg) who progressed well and claimed two Asian titles in the recent two years.
Amit Panghal is the best Indian male hope in the Tokyo Olympics who claimed silver medal at the 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships, gold at the Asian Games and also won the title of the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Boxing Championships. The men’s flyweight (52kg) is also super strong but Amit Panghal have got all of the potential to achieve his next highlight in Japan’s capital.
AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Manish Kaushik has got sensational technical skills and he is aiming also for a podium at the lightweight (63kg). Asian Games winner Vikas Krishan Yadav is a veteran boxer in the national team who has got 13 years of experiences in the international stage. Ashish Kumar (75kg) and Satish Kumar (+91kg) also claimed medals in the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships.
