The Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament turned to its medal phase

The busy Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament turned to its medal phase at the Kozhomkul Sports Palace in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan where the best 52 boxers are still in the competition out of the participating 150.

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are continuous nations in the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament. Two strong European nations such as Germany and Spain joined them this time to participate in the Central Asian region.

The event was named after Mr. Duisenkul Shopokov, the Kyrgyz hero of the Soviet Union who died during the Great Patriotic War at the Battle of Moscow in December 1941.

Kyrgyzstan’s Anvarzhan Khodzhiyev has beautiful technical skills at the flyweight (51kg) but his strength was the decisive factor in his contest against Bayel Urustambay Uulu and the referee stopped their quarter-final in the third round.

Spain’s Martin Molina was European Champion in 2022 and he decided to continue his career at the age of 31. The flyweight (51kg) boxer faced an even older pugilist in the last eight, but he was able to manage his success over a former ASBC medallist, Mirlan Turkbay Uulu.

The ASBC Asian U22 medallist Islam Torobayev is one of the top Kyrgyz boxers at the featherweight (57kg) and he has the punching power as well but he had to do his very best against a teenage opponent, Momunaly Ybyraimakunov.

Kyrgyzstan’s ASBC Asian Elite bronze medallist Ryspek Bektenov controlled most of the exchanges against Aktilek Kanybek Uulu and he will now meet in the last four Russia’s Nikita Burenkov who eliminated Spain’s Enrique Kakulov at the lightweight (60kg).

Tajikistan’s young Damir Muybalikhonov progressed a lot in the recent one year and he succeeded over Uzbekistan’s Asadbek Solijonov therefore he can test his current skills against Kyrgyzstan’s Turgunbek Imankadyrov as next.

Another Kyrgyz bronze medallist from the last edition of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships, Mirzokhid Imamnazarov bowed out Kazakhstan’s Aubakir Makhanbet at the light welterweight (63.5kg), where Aleksandr Martyniuk will be his next rival.

Kyrgyzstan’s ASBC Asian Youth Champion Almaz Orozbekov enjoyed his bout against Marsel Kadyrov at the welterweight (67kg) but two of his teammates such as Omar Livaza and Askat Chomonov also impressed in their bouts for the medal.
