The Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament started in Kyrgyzstan

Asia’s traditional international event, the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament started in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan with the participation of 150 boxers. Twenty-nine contests featured in the first competition day and 37 will take place in Bishkek on Day2.

One of the strongest Asian elite international competitions, the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament are underway at the Kozhomkul Sports Palace in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan where the finals will be held on May 3.

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan are continuous nations in the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament. Two strong European nations such as Germany and Spain joined them this time to participate in the Central Asian region.

Bishkek is the capital city of Kyrgyzstan and the general venue of several boxing events including the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament which has nearly 50 years of traditions.

The event was named after Mr. Duisenkul Shopokov, the Kyrgyz hero of the Soviet Union who died during the Great Patriotic War at the Battle of Moscow in December 1941. The new Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament will serve as a preparation event for the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

The last edition of the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament was held in 2024 and the 46th edition had 13 finals in the city of Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Altogether 175 boxers competed in the last edition of the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament from several top nations.

Nurzhigit Dyushebayev has just won an international tournament in Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz bantamweight (54kg) boxer will open his campaign against Nursultan Asanakunov who bowed out Izatullo Aliyev of Tajikistan in the preliminary stage.

Bekzat Ergeshov is an ASBC Youth medallist in this weight class but he will meet Spain’s European Championships bronze medallist Rafael Lozano Serrano in the quarter-finals. The Spaniard eliminated Adilet Kachkynbekov of Kyrgyzstan in the first session of the Shopokov Memorial.

Kyrgyzstan’s ASBC Asian bronze medallist Mirzokhid Imamnazarov, Spain’s European U22 Champion Oier Ibarreche, the ASBC Asian Youth Champions as Almaz Orozbekov and Nuradin Rustambek Uulu all will be in action on Day2.
