The boxing world mourns George Foreman

The whole Boxing World and the Asian Boxing Family are sending their sincere condolences to Mr. George Foreman’s family, following the legend died at the age of 76.

George Foreman was born in Marshall, Texas on January 10 in 1949 and grew up in Houston’s Fifth Ward Community. He was a troubled youth and dropped out from his school but he could change his motivation and attitude at the age of 16 and trained to become a carpenter and bricklayer.

After moving to Pleasanton, California, he started his boxing career with the help of a supervisor therefore Foreman gave up his football dreams. He started his boxing career very late in comparison to his US fellows but he had the strong motivation to be successful in the events. Foreman’s nickname was Big George and became the next US Olympic Champion at the heavyweight (+81kg) after Joe Frazier.

Foreman impressed in the 1968 US National Boxing Championships in Toledo where he defeated all of his four rivals at the heavyweight (+81kg) including Henry Crump in the final. The US team travelled to West Germany for dual matches where Foreman could show his strength at the very first time out of his country.

Foreman was such a native talent in our sport whose final amateur record was 22-4 before turning professional short after the Mexico City 1968 Olympic Games. He had an amazing professional boxing career between 1969 and 1997, won 76 out of his 81 bouts. Foreman won 68 fights out of his 76 victories by KO as a professional boxer.

Foreman won his first 40 bouts in the professional galas and defeated such stars as Joe Frazier and Ken Norton before losing his world title to legendary Muhammad Ali.

Outside of boxing he is also an author and entrepreneur and he promoted the healthy eating and lifestyle through the George Foreman Grill.

May his soul will rest in eternal peace in the United States.
