The Best of the Asians 2017 are revealed

The Best of the Asians 2017 project are finished and 14 winners have been named in 14 different categories. The voting in the social media was a great success in the recent days, Asian Boxing Confederation received record number of votes during the process which shows the great commitment of the sport.
The first Best of the Asian awards for the 2012 winners were presented during the 2013 ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Subic Bay. In a new addition, ASBC President and AIBA Vice-President Mr. Serik Konakbayev gave his personal award to Afghanistan Boxing Federation to their strong development in the sport.
The Best Asian Man Elite Boxer is Uzbekistan’s AIBA World Champion and ASBC Asian Champion Shakhram Giyasov after the voting process. The Best Asian Woman Elite Boxer is Kazakhstan’s Madina Nurshayeva who won the title in the ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships in Ho Chi Minh City.

Best Asian Men’s Elite Boxers in 2017 – Winner: Shakhram Giyasov, Uzbekistan, 69kg
Following Daniyar Yeleussinov’s success in 2016, another welterweight (69kg) boxer Uzbekistan’s Shakhram Giyasov won the Best Asian Man Elite Boxers Award. The 24-year-old boxer was named as the Best Asian Discovery in 2016 and after his silver medal in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, he won the title in the Tashkent 2017 ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships and also in the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships by large margin of differences.

Best Asian Women’s Elite Boxers in 2017 – Winner: Madina Nurshayeva, Kazakhstan, 64kg
Kazakhstan’s Madina Nurshayeva proved amazing development in the recent 12 months and won the Best Asian Woman Boxers Trophy in 2017. The 22-year-old talent won the Kazakh Women’s National Championships firstly before defeating all of her rivals in the Silesian Women’s Open Tournament in Poland. Nurshayeva exceeded the previous expectations and won the title in the ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships in Ho Chi Minh City following her triumph over China’s Dou Dan.

Best Asian Men’s Youth Boxers in 2017 – Winner: Sachin Siwach Singh, India, 49kg
India’s Sachin Siwach Singh is one of the biggest future hope of his South Asian country and following his gold medal in the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships, he delivered several successes in the recent months as well. The 18-year-old Indian boxer achieved silver medal in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships and won the title in the Commonwealth Youth Games.

Best Asian Women’s Youth Boxers in 2017 – Winner: Araylym Begdilda, Kazakhstan, 81kg
Kazakhstan’s Araylym Begdilda won three international tournaments before the start of the AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships where she was the favourite of the light heavyweight (81kg). The 18-year-old Kazakh talent dominated all of her contests in the AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships in Guwahati and won her well deserved title in India.

Best Asian Men’s Junior Boxers in 2017 – Winner: Sora Tanaka, Japan, 66kg
Japan’s new sensation Sora Tanaka put himself into the spotlight when he defeated their rising star Hayato Tsutsumi at home but after his national school title he impressed all of the judges and officials at the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Puerto Princesa. The 16-year-old welterweight (66kg) boxer dominated all of his bouts in the continental event, won his fights by RSCs and kept unbeaten in 2017.

Best Asian Women’s Junior Boxers in 2017 – Winner: Zhamila Bolat, Kazakhstan, 66kg
Kazakhstan’s Zhamila Bolat won the title in the Mengerey Khayrutdinov Women’s Junior Memorial Tournament before leaving the country to compete abroad in 2017. The 16-year-old welterweight (66kg) talent took the gold medal in the traditional Nations Women’s Junior Cup in Serbia and proved top performance also in other Ukrainian and Russian international competitions.
Voting (Top3): 1. Zhamila Bolat KAZ 38.1%; 2. Eldana Talipova KAZ 35%; 3. Chang Yi Hsuan TPE 13.7%

Best Asian WSB Boxers in 2017 – Winner: Aslanbek Shymbergenov, Kazakhstan, Astana Arlans Kazakhstan, 69kg
Astana Arlans Kazakhstan won the Season III, V and VII in the World Series of Boxing and their engine in the welterweight (69kg) is Aslanbek Shymbergenov. The 24-year-old boxer proved top performance in the World Series of Boxing mainly in the Play-off in Season VII. Shymbergenov is one of the most experienced boxer in the Astana Arlans Kazakhstan WSB franchise and his victories delivered the third title for the team. Aslanbek Shymbergenov was named as the Best Asian WSB Boxer in 2016 as well which means he defended his throne in this section.

Asian Discovery of the Year 2017 – Winner: Hussin Al-Masri, Syria, 49kg
Syria’s Hussin Al-Masri joined to the national elite team in the recent years but he did a superb breakthrough in 2017. Syria’s best light flyweight (49kg) boxer won top contests in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Tashkent and topped to the top of the podium in the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku. Furthermore Al-Masri won the gold medal also in the traditional Askar Kulibayev Prizes Tournament in Atyrau, Kazakhstan.

Best Asian Coach in 2017 – Winner: Mr. Hirokuni Moto, Japan
Japan has been preparing to the upcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games with full speed and their talents spent long time in training camps as a start of the year. Japan proved amazing performance in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok and also in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Puerto Princesa. Mr. Hirokuni Moto is an engine in Japan’s coaching life and following his boxing career he is a top Asian trainer.
Voting (Top3): 1. Mr. Hirokuni Moto JPN 41.3%; 2. Hamid Tangribergenov UZB 39.8%; 3. Santiago Nieva IND & Kayrat Satzhanov KAZ 6.2%-6.2%

Best Asian Supervisor in 2017 – Winner: Mr. Aslan Igubayev, Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan has got excellent boxing life and their experienced official Mr. Aslan Igubayev is one of the hard working person in the Asian continent. Kazakhstan’s top Supervisor worked successfully in several big boxing events in 2017 and travelled a lot to cover all worldwide and multisport events with his great knowledge. Mr. Aslan Igubayev had a successful boxing career in the ’90s before joining to the officials in Kazakhstan.

Best Asian ITO in 2017 – Winner: Mr. Lenny D’Gama, India
Mr. Lenny D’Gama is an experienced Indian International Technical Official who has been supporting the world’s boxing life since decades. India’s best ITO worked successfully in the ASBC Asian Confederation Junior Boxing Championships in Puerto Princesa and also in the ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships in Ho Chi Minh City. Mr. D’Gama celebrated his birthday during the ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships in Vietnam which was a lifetime experience for the Goa-based official.

Best Asian R&J in 2017 – Winner: Mrs. Nelka Shiromala, Sri Lanka
The Asian referees & judges worked in all of the top international competitions in the first year of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic cycle. Sri Lanka’s Mrs. Nelka Shiromala is an experienced 3-star R&J who had a lot of works in the World’s and Asia’s biggest events in 2017. Her highlight this year was the AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships in Guwahati, India.

The Best Asian National Federation in 2017 – Winner: Uzbekistan Boxing Federation
Uzbekistan is one of the key nation in Asia and in the World in our sport and their boxers worked well in the big events in 2017. Uzbekistan Boxing Federation hosted sensationally the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships where their boxers won nine gold medals. Uzbekistan topped the team rankings also in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships in Bangkok and following that their elite boxers achieved six medals in the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships.

ASBC President’s Personal Award in 2017 – Winner: Afghanistan Boxing Federation
ASBC President and AIBA Vice-President Mr. Serik Konakbayev gave his personal award to the Afghanistan Boxing Federation which NF developed well and launched new strategic plans to increase the level of the sport in their country. Afghanistan Boxing Federation launched their new Facebook page, sent boxers to international events and hosted its first ever AIBA 1-Star Coach Course in their capital city in Kabul which was their next effort to develop boxing in the country.
