The Best achievements of the National Federations – Laos

The Best achievements of the National Federations is the new PR campaign of the Asian Boxing Confederation and the introduction of the Laos Boxing and their best results are the next in the series.

Laos competed first in the Moscow 1980 Olympic Games and the country also sent two boxers to the Seoul 1988 edition. Laos has done an impressive result four years later when Khamsavath Vilayphone was able to qualify for the boxing event of the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games and represented the country at the light welterweight (63.5kg).

Laos achieved one bronze medal in the history of the boxing events of the Asian Games which was taken by Vongkot Chinda at the lightweight (60kg) in Beijing in 1990. Laos had quarter-finalists in the Hiroshima 1994, Bangkok 1998, Doha 2006, and in the Guangzhou 2010 Asian Games.

Laos competed first in the 1992 Asian Boxing Championships in Bangkok where Khamsavath Vilayphone achieved bronze medal and four further boxers represented the country in Thailand’s capital. Laos competed in a few further editions of the Asian Boxing Championships, last time in the 2021 Chiang Mai edition.

Laos’ Vongkot Chinda achieved silver medal at the lightweight (60kg) in the Seremban 1989 Southeast Asian Games. Their next finalist in the boxing event of the SEA Games was Hobkhob Somsanouk in the Kuala Lumpur 2001 edition.

Khamphouvanh Khamsathone, Sivixay Thammavongsa and a girl, Panee Bounmeexai were their last bronze medallists in the Southeast Asian Games in 2023.

Laos competed in the ASBC Asian Confederation Elite Boxing Championships in Bangkok, in the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships, all editions of the Southeast Asian Games and in the ASBC Asian Confederation Women’s Boxing Championships in Ho Chi Minh City in the recent eight years.  

Laos’ 18-year-old Siphae Manichan won the gold medal in their National Championships at the bantamweight (56kg) and celebrated a historical success over Malaysia’s Yuvant Mitadevar Ganesh at the Bangkok 2018 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships. The final verdict was unanimous decision to Manichan which meant Laos won its first ever bout in the history of the ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships.

Laos’ best boxer Khamsathone Khamphouvanh has done historical two successes in the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok on April 2019 and he repeated that strong performance in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament.

Laos will arrange its National Games next November and their selected top boxers will compete in the Southeast Asian Games this December.
