The Best achievements of the National Federations is the new PR campaign of the Asian Boxing Confederation and the introduction of the Japan Boxing and their best results are the next in the series.
Japan competed first in the Olympic Games in 1928 at the Amsterdam edition and became one of the pioneer Asian nations in the multisport event. Japan achieved three gold and five bronze medals in the history of the Olympic Games,
Their first title was achieved by Takao Sakurai at the bantamweight (54kg) in 1964 on home soil. He was Asia’s first ever Olympic Champion in boxing which was followed many others until present day.
The AIBA World Boxing Championships silver medallist Ryota Murata was Japan’s secret favourite at the London 2012 Olympic Games where he was seeded and finally he achieved the title thirteen years ago before his exciting professional career. Japan’s another hero Satoshi Shimizu claimed bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games which was their most successful event.
Japan’s capital, Tokyo hosted the Olympic Games in 2021 and their Sena Irie earned the country’s third title of all-times. Another strong girl, Tsukimi Namiki and additionally their experienced male boxer, Ryomei Tanaka achieved bronze medals four years ago.
Japan’s boxers earned two gold, one silver and two bronze medals in the history of the World Men’s Boxing Championships. Sewon Okazawa and Tomoya Tsuboi achieved these titles in the same 2021 Belgrade edition. Japan’s best female boxers claimed altogether four bronze medals in the events of the World Women’s Boxing Championships.
Japan achieved 14 gold, 14 silver and 39 bronze medals in the history of the Asian Games and the country is Rank No. 7 in the overall medal table. Kazuma Fujimoto was their first Asian Games winner in 1954 while their last champion Tsuyoshi Yaegashi claimed gold medal at the 1994 edition. Japan hosted the Asian Games twice during its history, first in Tokyo in 1958 and in Hiroshima in 1994. Their last title was achieved by the World Champion Sewon Okazawa in the Hangzhou 2023 edition.
Japan claimed two gold medals in the first edition of the Asian Boxing Championships in Bangkok in 1963. The Japanese boxers impressed in the event mostly in the 1970s and 1980s when the country achieved high number of medals. Japan won the medal table with six gold medals in the Yokohama 1975 Asian Boxing Championships which was their peak performance in the history of the event.
Japan impressed in the 2021 and the 2022 editions of the Youth World Boxing Championships in Kielce and in La Nucia with gold medals and new stars on the board including Reito Tsutsumi.
