The Best achievements of the National Federations is the new PR campaign of the Asian Boxing Confederation and the introduction of the Chinese Boxing Federation and their best results are the next in the series.
China competed first in the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games where two of their boxers represented the huge country. Since then the country attended in all of the boxing events of the Olympic Games and they had strong delegations especially at the Beijing, London, Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo and the Paris editions.
The golden era for Chinese boxing came when the International Olympic Committee has been chosen Beijing as host city for the 29th Summer Olympiad in their Congress in 2001. China has the population of 1.4 billion and their government and National Olympic Committee invested huge amounts of money and efforts to build up strong teams for the Beijing Olympics including in boxing as well.
China hosted the AIBA World Boxing Championships in the city of Mianyang in 2005 which delivered their first gold medal in that level. That competition 20 years ago generated a big boxing boom in China and the country became one of the leaders in the sport.
The country proved amazing performance in the women’s international events and hosted the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships two-times. The first was held in the city of Ningbo in 2008 and the second became the lone Olympic qualification event for the London 2012 Olympic Games which took place in Qinhuangdao.
China was also the host of the 2009 edition of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Zhuhai and the 2015 ASBC Asian Women’s Elite Boxing Championships in Wulanchabu, Inner Mongolia.
China’s most successful male boxer in their boxing life, Zou Shiming was born in the city of Zunyi on May 18 in 1981. He started boxing relatively late in 1997 at the age of 16 but after that he claimed gold medals in all levels of boxing including the Olympics, World Boxing Championships, Asian Games and Asian Boxing Championships.
The Chinese women boxers are dominant in the international stage, they topped the medal standings in the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou as well. China’s total performance in boxing at the Asian Games’ history is 16 gold, 14 silver and 16 bronze medals.
Their female team achieved one gold, one silver and three bronze medals in the 2025 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. China earned altogether 22 gold, 17 silver and 23 bronze medals in the history of the Women’s World Boxing Championships.
The Chinese boxers claimed one gold, four silver and two bronze medals in the recent ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Chiang Mai on December 2024.
As one of their new initiatives, China hosted the Belt & Road Youth Boxing Festival & Training Camp with successes in 2023 and in 2024 and the 2025 edition will be coming soon in August 15-30 this year.
