The Best achievements of the National Federations is the new PR campaign of the Asian Boxing Confederation and the introduction of the Bangladesh Boxing Federation and their best results are the next in the series.
Bangladesh competed at the very first time in the Asian Boxing Championships in 1977 which edition was held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Bangladesh Boxing Federation sent eight boxers to the Indonesian capital and among them Abdul Halim and Abdur Rauf Khan were able to get bronze medals in 1977. Their valuable two medals were Bangladesh’s first podium places in the Asian Boxing Championships.
Following his gold at the 1985 South Asian Games, Mosharraf Hossain claimed their first medal in the history of the boxing events of the Asian Games in 1986. That bronze was Bangladesh’s first ever medal in any sports during the Asian Games and their lone one in the Seoul 1986 edition. Hossain won the light heavyweight (81kg) national title for consecutive 10-times in Bangladesh between 1981 and 1990. He received the National Sports Award in 1999 and continued his career as a coach in Rajshahi.
Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka hosted the South Asian Games three-times in the past, firstly in 1985, secondly in 1993 and finally in 2010. Their boxers claimed one gold in 1985, another title which took by Moazzamul Haque at the flyweight (51kg) in the 1993 edition. Bangladesh achieved several further medals on these local South Asian Games.
Their highlight was the 2010 edition of the South Asian Games where the country was able to get two gold medals and a further silver in Dhaka. The team prepared strongly to the event and attended at the Milan 2009 AIBA World Boxing Championships and several training camps abroad led by foreign coaches.
Muhammad Jewel Ahmed Jony was the youngest team member at the 2010 South Asian Games but he was able to get the gold medal of the lightweight (60kg) in the front of their home crowd. Mohammed Abdur Rahim surprised in the Milan 2009 AIBA World Boxing Championships when he defeated a tough European boxer. The 25-year-old boxer dominated the light welterweight (64kg) in the 2010 South Asian Games achieving Bangladesh’s second gold medal in the important multisport event.
Bangladesh returned to the international stage of boxing in the recent years and their best ever female boxer, the US-based Zinnat Ferdous reached new highlights for the country in various tournaments.
Two of their young talents claimed bronze medals in the last edition of the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Colombo on May 2025 which meant that Bangladesh returned to the podiums after a long break.
