The Azimjon Toshev Memorial Tournament turned to its final phase

The Azimjon Toshev Memorial Tournament turned to its final phase in the Spartak Stadium in Khudjand, Tajikistan where the semi-finals are all concluded.  

The boxers can compete at the flyweight (51kg), featherweight (57kg), light welterweight (63.5kg), welterweight (67kg), light middleweight (71kg), light heavyweight (80kg) and super heavyweight (+92kg) in the Azimjon Toshev Memorial Tournament.

The competition is dedicated to the National Unity Day and in memory of the Honoured Coach of the Soviet Union, Mr. Azimjon Toshev. Altogether 84 elite male boxers are participating in the new event from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

Tajikistan’s promising Mekhroj Sufijonov achieved several ASBC medals during his career and he won the CIS Junior Games as well. The 19-year-old boxer defeated his main national rival, Mekhron Shafiyev and he will now meet for the title of the flyweight (51kg) Russia’s Bair Batlayev.

Tajikistan’s ASBC Asian U22 silver medallist Khusravkhon Rakhimov eliminated Russia’s Vitaliy Boytsov in the first semi-finals of the featherweight (57kg) in Khudjand. His teammate, the ASBC Asian U22 Champion 19-year-old Anushervon Fazylov suffered a tight loss to Uzbekistan’s Mukhammadgiyos Sobutkhanov in the second semi-final.

Ruslan Gafurov is only 19-year-old but he claimed his first ASBC medal still back in 2019 and the young Tajik was able to beat his teammate, Mekhroj Zoidov in the hectic semi-final at the light welterweight (63.5kg). Gafurov, the Dushanbe-based teenager, will be boxing for the title of the Toshev Memorial with Rasul Magomedov of Russia.

A World Championships competitor, Dovud Makhkamov is a local boxer from the Sughd region of Tajikistan, who moved down to the welterweight (67kg) successfully. The 22-year-old Tajik stopped Abubakr Abdullozoda in the semi-finals and his final opponent will be Russia’s strong Danis Gabdrafikov.

Uzbekistan’s Lazizbek Tulkinov is another young talent in this event who demonstrated his power against a local boxer, Ismoil Dadabayev which means that he will be facing for the gold medal with Tajikistan’s Murodjon Ashuraliyev.

Shakhboz Khaitov of Tajikistan and Chezrav Ashalayev of Russia will meet in the final of the light heavyweight (80kg) in Khudjand in a highly anticipated contest. The super heavyweight (+92kg) will have also a Tajikistan vs. Russia battle between Mukhammad Abroridinov and Svetoslav Teterin.
