The Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament was the last preparation event before the ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships

The last preparation event for the upcoming ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships finished in Kazakhstan. The 21st edition of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament introduced the new weight categories and the thirteen winners celebrated their successes. Twelve of the champions are from Kazakhstan and one boxer from Uzbekistan won the title of the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament.

The Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament is a strong men’s youth international competition which was named by Ural and Korgan Aitenov. The city of Kostanay is located in the Northern part of Kazakhstan and has been hosting the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament in the recent more than two decades.  

Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Russia and China sent boxers to the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament this time. The five-day long international youth event showed world class level of boxing between these top powers. The head of the local organizers Mrs. Svetlana Mahleyt arranged all of the tournament issues and details and worked hard on the success of the international competition.

Boxers who were born in 2003 and in 2004 were eligible to attend in the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament. The men’s youth event will be held in ten different weight categories: light flyweight (49kg), flyweight (52kg), bantamweight (56kg), lightweight (60kg), light welterweight (64kg), welterweight (69kg), middleweight (75kg), light heavyweight (81kg), heavyweight (91kg) and super heavyweight (+91kg).

Kazakhstan’s strong future hope Sanzhar Tashkenbay won the title of the light flyweight (49kg) at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Kielce, Poland this April but the 18-year-old rising star lost his semi-final to his teammate, Ramazan Nurlybayev by RSC in Kostanay. His opponent stopped him and marched into the finals but the gold medal was achieved by Ali Toktarov in the new light flyweight (48kg).

The second gold medal at the Aitenov Brothers Youth Tournament was achieved by 18-year-old Kenzhe Muratuly who competed at the AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Kielce and used up all of his experiences in the final of the new flyweight (51kg) against Youth National Champion Bekzat Aldamzharov.

Erkhan Turdan was not the main favourite for the gold medal at the bantamweight (54kg) but the 17-year-old talent defeated Pavlodar-based Berik Temirzhanov and Junior National Champion Nursultan Altynbek in the bantamweight (54kg). ASBC Asian Junior Champion Ruslan Kuzeubayev defeated two top rivals as Abdygalym Abdikarim and Uralbek Abdikadirov in the final stages of the featherweight (57kg).

Youth National Champion Bekzat Bitimov defeated ASBC Asian Junior Champion Yerassyl Yermek in the semi-finals of the lightweight (60kg) which was the next sensation of the event, and the 18-year-old talent continued his winning path against Islam Makashev. Asylbek Naizabek won the title of the light welterweight (63.5kg) after beating Uzbekistan’s Rivozhiddin Yuldashev while AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships silver medallist Elnur Suyunbay earned only bronze medal in Kostanay.

The main sensation of the whole event was delivered by Bereket Tairov who triumphed over ASBC Asian Junior Champion, promising star Abzal Serik in the final of the welterweight (67kg) in Kostanay. Nurkadam Abdresh amazed in the recent competitions and he was enough skilled to beat Youth National Champion and AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships competitor Armat Armanuly at the light middleweight (71kg).

Uzbekistan’s lone gold medal was achieved by Diyorbek Uralov at the new cruiserweight (86kg) where he defeated Kazakhstan’s Youth National Champion Temirlan Mukatayev. Madi Amirov developed rapidly in the recent two years and the 18-year-old boxer proved his strength in the final against Temirlan Amanbek. The last title of the event was achieved by Almira Anarbayev who defeated experienced Diyar Roman and Adil Abdulin at the super heavyweight (+91kg).
