Thailand’s Olympians will compete at the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Chiang Mai

The host country of the ASBC Asian Elite Men and Women Boxing Championships, Thailand announced its participating team in Chiang Mai where the competition will start with its first session on November 30.

The Thais achieved two gold, two silver and one bronze medal at the 2022 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Amman, Jordan and their goal is to work even better in the upcoming competition on home soil.

The former Olympic Champion Mr. Wijan Ponlid, Mr. Suban Pannon, Mr. Sutthisak Samaksaman, Mr. Athichat Kulsri, Mr. Saylom Ardee and the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist Ms. Sudaporn Seesondee are the coaches of the selected 17 boxers.

Thipsatcha Yodwaree earned her first Asian medal as a junior still in 2019 and the 21-year-old talent has a strong chance to reach her career highlight in Chiang Mai. Chuthamat Raksat is one of the most experienced boxers of their women’s national team, the Olympian was silver medallist in the last Asian Games as well.

Natnicha Chongprongklang has beautiful technical skills and the 20-year-old will compete at the women’s bantamweight (54kg) for the first time. The 26-year-old Punrawee Ruenros is a newcomer at the featherweight (57kg), she replaced Nilawan Techasuep and other veterans in the national team.

Porntip Buapa (60kg) and Thananya Somnuek (63kg) had very similar career from the youth to the U22 and elite age groups and both earned several medals and titles but the Chiang Mai event could be their next important highlight.

The two-time World silver medallist Janjaem Suwannapheng earned a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics but she did not stop with the training sessions and she prepared well to earn a gold medal at the women’s welterweight (66kg). The next ace of their female team is the two-time Olympian 23-year-old Baison Manikon who is also the Asian U22 Champion.

The ASBC Asian U22 medallist Natthapong Thuamcharoen will represent Thailand at the men’s minimumweight (48kg) once again. The Olympian and Asian Games silver medallist Thitisan Panmot is one of the stars of the national team who has the high potential to get a gold medal at the flyweight (51kg).

The former Youth Olympic Games silver medallist Sarawut Sukthet moved back to the bantamweight (54kg) which is the best for his physical conditions. Phanuwat Choojan-At was a surprise team member in the 2022 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and he received the right once again to compete for Thailand in a big event.

The ex-Muay Thai star, Khunatip Pidnuch, moved back to the lightweight (60kg) and the strong puncher is aiming for a title in Chiang Mai. Somchay Wongsuwan competed for Thailand in several events in the recent ten years and he has the counter-attacking tactics with the routine to beat the top rivals.

Bunjong Sinsiri is the defending ASBC Asian Elite Champion at the welterweight (67kg) therefore his objective is simple in Chiang Mai. Peerapat Yeasungnoen (71kg) and the World Championships bronze medallist Weerapon Jongjoho (75kg) have also the experience to keep Thailand’s flag high in the event.
