Talaybekov, Khamidov and Turdubayev made the show at the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament today

The new edition of the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament saw 40 contests on their second competition day in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Altogether 175 boxers are participating in the new edition of the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament in Bishkek. The Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament is a perfect option for the elite boxers to use the event as preparation for the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event which will start in Bangkok, Thailand on May 23.

The event was named after Mr. Duisenkul Shopokov, the Kyrgyz hero of the Soviet Union who died during the Great Patriotic War at the Battle of Moscow in December 1941. The new Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament will serve as a preparation event for the 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event.

Kyrgyzstan’s Omar Livaza worked well today and the Asian Youth silver medallist defeated another 19-year-old prospect, Uzbekistan’s Jakhonmurod Imomaliyev. Another Kyrgyz U22 boxer, Ikhtiyar Nishonov eliminated Uzbekistan’s Mirzamakhmad Mirzabekov at the men’s welterweight (67kg).  

Kyrgyzstan’s Zhakshylyk Talaybekov competed in the last two editions of the World Boxing Championships and the experienced boxer turned up the heat after the tactical first round. The referee counted his opponent, Myrzakhan Maulenov in the second and the Kazakh coaches abandoned their welterweight (67kg) contest in the third round.

Uzbekistan’s Sherzot Khabibov faced his teammate Safarbek Abumutalipov in the first contest of the light middleweight (71kg) and he looked active from the opening seconds. Khabibov was more experienced than his younger teammate, but Abumutalipov’s smart boxing in the second and third rounds decided their contest.

Uzbekistan’s Bekzod Khamidov was ASBC Asian U22 Champion in 2023 and he is one of the top names at the light middleweight (71kg). He had a final-level opponent, Russia’s Aleksei Skomorokha who represented his nation at the 2023 European Boxing Cup in Budva. The Uzbek switched into a higher tempo and in the second and third round, he decided their top level meeting in Bishkek.

Kyrgyzstan’s Eldar Turdubayev is only 19 but he has the fantastic punching power to stop his opponents in the international events. The young talent, who is coached by Mr. Marat Shamamatov in the ringside, knocked out his opponent today, Erkinbek Satarkul Uulu landing a lethal hook. Iran’s Kasra Tahmashebi opened the first round in different rhythm as his local opponent, Cholponbek Mamazakirov and he had the strong performance to win their light middleweight (71kg) bout today. Kazakhstan’s Bakbergen Aliaskarov stopped his Uzbek rival, Ismoiljon Tursunov in the next contest, his strength was the difference between them.
