IBA-India’s Praveen Kumar claimed five medals in the recent national events including a gold this year and the welterweight (67kg) boxer tried to use his speed to catch Afghanistan’s Amaun Yawari in the first round. The Afghan was lack of experience and Kumar destroyed his opponent in the second round to win their bout with a stoppage.
The next boxer from India, Pravesh Kumar started well against DR Congo’s experienced Christopher Luteke and the 23-year-old boxer had the advantage on the judges’ scorecards after three minutes of fight. The Indian light heavyweight (80kg) boxer had great actions in the second round which was his best period in this preliminary battle and despite his opponent’s great finish, Kumar won their meeting by bout review.
Seychelles’ Dasheil Fabrice Fanchette had experience from the recent All Africa Games and African Boxing Championships but his opponent at the light heavyweight (80kg) was Uzbekistan’s Javokhir Ummataliyev, the defending Asian Champion. The 20-year-old Uzbek landed several body shots to stop his rival’s attacks and he destroyed the African boy’s defence near to the corner several times therefore he won the bout by large margin of difference.
Kyrgyzstan’s National Champion Bakyt Toktosun Uulu tried to follow the instructions of his corner from Mr. Daniyar Tologon Uulu and he had the advantage on the judges’ scorecards against Kenya’s Peter Abuti Alwanga after three minutes. The 23-year-old Kyrgyz southpaw saved fuel for the next stage of boxing in the last round and he marched to the Round of 16 at the heavyweight (92kg).
Uzbekistan’s Sayat Ilyasov is a new face in the elite national team but he competed in the junior, youth and U22 squads in the recent years. The 20-year-old Uzbek had a good warm-up to the later part of the championships against Palestine’s Anas Sleiman in a bout, which he showed his extraordinary defensive skills. Following Ilyasov’s brilliant attacks in the last seconds of the second round, the Palestinian ringside abandoned the unequal contest.
Tajikistan’s Anushervon Fazylov is the defending Asian U22 Champion at the age of 19 and he dictated the tempo against Mozambique’s Manuel Paulo Banguine in the preliminary round of the bantamweight (54kg).
