Tajikistan earned a historic gold medal at the CIS Games in Yevlakh

The men’s finals delivered tight bouts at the Commonwealth of Independent States Games in Azerbaijan where Bekhruz Umarov won a historic gold medal for Tajikistan.

Eight cities hosted the CIS Games in Azerbaijan and the seven-days long boxing part of the competition took place at the Yevlakh Olympic Center with impressive world-class bouts.

Uzbekistan’s Utkirbek Norkosimov joined the final of the pinweight (46kg), but surprisingly he lost to Azerbaijan’s Kardash Rakhimov by 3:2 split decision. The next Azeri boxer, Ali Aliyev also won his final in the same way, he defeated Tajikistan’s strong Azamjon Khasanov at the light flyweight (48kg).

Tajikistan’s Bekhruz Umarov had amazing performance in the preparation tournaments for the CIS Games and he spent a lot of time in Kazakhstan and in Uzbekistan with the national team. The 15-year-old Tajik was too smart for Azerbaijan’s Aykhan Hasanov in the last four and he worked hard to beat Uzbekistan’s Azizbek Shokirjonov to take his nation’s historic gold medal in the Games.

Kazakhstan’s Edige Nurgozha competed in Azerbaijan, in China and in Hungary out of his homeland as preparations for the CIS Games and he claimed finally a silver medal after his loss to Ali Abasli of Azerbaijan at the light bantamweight (52kg) by 3:2 decision.

Uzbekistan’s Bekhruzjon Rakhataliyev defeated the strongest opponents during his road to the final of the bantamweight (54kg) and he controlled his title contest against Kyrgyzstan’s 15-year-old Erbol Baratakhunov, the lone finalist from his nation.

Akbarjon Abdulloyev won the ASBC Asian Schoolboys title in Al Ain one year ago and he joined the junior age group this January. The 15-year-old Tajik joined the finals but he was not able to meet for the gold Uzbekistan’s Bobomurod Boymirzayev in the last session of the CIS Games.

Uzbekistan’s Dilshod Akhmadjonov met one of the Russian junior boxers, David Karababayev in the final of the light welterweight (63kg) therefore he needed to use the best strategy to beat his opponent by 3:2 split decision.

Oybekjon Abdurakhimov won two out of the three rounds against Russia’s Albert Kobzev and he claimed the title at the light middleweight (70kg). The next Uzbek, Khurshidbek Jurayev won his middleweight (75kg) final over Russia’s Roman Zaporozhets in the same way as Abdurakhimov and he earned his highlight gold medal.
