Tajikistan and Jordan are among the first medallist nations in Astana

Tajikistan and Jordan are among the first medallist nations at the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Muinkhodzha Muminov won his first preliminary contest in Astana on Day1 but he could expect a stronger resistance from Kazakhstan’s Adilbek Kozhakhan in the last eight of the youth minimumweight (48kg). The local boy did not use his longer reach in the first round and Muminov’s tactics worked better and he eliminated the first Kazakh in Astana.

Yasur Taalaybek Uulu from Kyrgyzstan switched his stance several times during his quarter-final against Turkmenistan’s Resul Arslanov and his technical skills overmatched the regional rival. The Kyrgyz minimumweight (48kg) boxer worked from his safest distance in this quarter-final and he earned his nation’s first medal in Astana.

Uzbekistan’s Sobirjon Tastanov became the first medallist at the youth bantamweight (54kg) following his success over Iraq’s Abbas Qasim Al-Sarray. Kazakhstan’s Nurassyl Tulebek, the strong southpaw in this weight class, used his hooks to catch India’s Jitesh and he controlled two rounds to win this quarter-final.

Kyrgyzstan’s first ever Junior World Champion, Amantur Dzhumayev won his excellent opener and he overcame his next rival in the attacks successfully in the first round. Tajikistan’s Anushervon Fazylov is also an experienced international boxer but the 17-year-old Kyrgyz has done a great job in the last round to win their bantamweight (54kg) battle.

Kyrgyzstan’s Dilerbek Sadirov also joined from the junior age group to the youth level this January as Amantur Dzhumayev and he had a great quarter-final against Philippines’ John Steven Demaisip at the lightweight (60kg). The 17-year-old Kyrgyz and the Filipino made nice style of boxing today in their tactical game, Sadirov was better and claimed the guaranteed medal in Astana.

Thailand’s technician Thanaphansakon Kalaseeram claimed a gold medal at the 2022 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships in Amman and he is one of their future stars. His quarter-final opponent at the lightweight (60kg) was an inexperienced Indian, Sagar Jakhar who had the rhythm without the stoppage to beat Kalaseeram in a surprise contest.

Kazakhstan’s Aleksey Khavantsev ruled the middle of the ring against Turkmenistan’s Ysmayyl Gurbanberdyyev and he landed a tough shot before the end of the first round. The Karagandy-based lightweight (60kg) talent was stronger than the stylish Turkmen and he secured his place in the last four in Astana.

Kazakhstan’s three-time Asian Champion Torekhan Sabyrkhan is their star in the youth national team who follows the country’s strong traditions at the welterweight (67kg). He had a taller, neighbouring rival, Kyrgyzstan’s Ramzan Kadyrov and both had the same technician style of boxing with great defensive skills. The Lithuanian referee stopped the bout in the third round but both boxers proved their excellent talents in this chess game. Jordan’s Nazmi Jaradat competed in the 2023 Junior World Boxing Championships and also in one of the previous ASBC events therefore he had the advantage in routine against United Arab Emirates’ Abdulla Alshehhi. The 17-year-old boxer from Jordan had better shots in the first round but Alshehhi returned to the contest in the second with some jabs. The final verdict was depended on their performance in the third when Jaradat decided their contest and he earned a guaranteed medal for Jordan.
