Four boxers defended their thrones in the Syrian Junior National Championships

The Syrian Junior National Championships was held in Damascus where four of their talented boxers defended their thrones. Altogether 11 teams and 84 junior boxers competed in the national event from all over the country in spite of the fact Syria has got in political and war crisis since 2011. The city of Aleppo won the team rankings in the Syrian Junior National Championships ahead of Latakia and Hama.

The competition was held in thirteen weight classes and boxers who were born in 2000 or in 2001 were eligible to box in the Syrian Junior National Championships. President of the Syrian Arab Boxing Federation and Executive Committee member of the Asian Boxing Confederation Mr. Issa Al-Nassar is also attended in the national event.

The last edition of the Syrian Junior National Championships was held in Damascus between 9-13 September in 2015 only half year ago but the local federation decided to schedule a new event in the year of the Children of Asia Games. Syria is planning to send a team to the most important junior competition of the year to Yakutsk, Russia in July.

The first winner of the Syrian Junior National Championships was Basher Shith of Aleppo at the Pinweight class (46 kg) where he was too strong for Ahmad Kekhe. The second gold medal of the Syrian Junior National Championships was achieved by Krikor Tangrian at the Light Flyweight class (48 kg) who has got Armenian parents and arrived from the historical city of Aleppo to the venue.

Ayman Al-Nashawi of Damascus was the first boxer in the Syrian Junior National Championships who could defend his throne. The Light Bantamweight class (52 kg) boxer was too strong for Saed Asad of Aleppo in the gold medal bout. Adeb Habra of Hama also defended his title following his great performance against Mohammad Atrash of Aleppo in the final of the Featherweight class (57 kg).

Army’s Shehab Hamdan was silver medallist in 2015 and now he was able to change that medal to a brighter one and claimed gold in the Welterweight class (66 kg) where he was too smart for Karam Zahir of Latakia. Jamaldeen Fares of Hama was the third boxer who could win his second title in the history of the Syrian Junior Boxing Championships after beating Amar Khadam of Latakia in the Middleweight class (75 kg). Daraa’s lone gold medallist in the event was Mohamed Al-Krad who defeated Ali Othman in the final.

Abdalhamed Al-Yousef won the gold medal at the Light Heavyweight class (80 kg) in 2015 and now he was able to repeat a strong performance once again. The 16-year-old boxer won the Heavyweight class (+80 kg) this time where he was too strong for all of his opponents. Al-Yousef is a great medal prospect for Syria in the upcoming Children of Asia Games.
