Syria amazed the crowd with perfect performance in the Islamic Solidarity Games on Day4

The second part of the quarter-finals was held in the boxing tournament of the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku, Azerbaijan where Syria delivered a perfect competition day. The strong Asian boxers took further 12 guaranteed medal places in the fourth competition day and dominated the light flyweight (49kg) where only athletes from our continent advanced to the last four.

Light flyweight (49kg):
Iran’s Omid Ahmadisafa proved top performance in the Great Silk Way Tournament in March and returned to Baku where he delivered the main sensation of the fourth competition day winning his bout against Azerbaijan’s Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games winner Rufat Huseynov. Iraq’s experienced Hasan Ali Naser was enough fresh in the final round to beat Kyrgyzstan’s two-time National Champion Rakhmankul Avatov by split decision.
Uzbekistan’s WSB talent and National Championships silver medallist Mironshokh Ibragimov had a tight contest against Malaysia’s experienced Muhamad Fuad Bin Mohamed Redzuan but finally his hand was raised after the final bell. Asia’s fourth medal was achieved by Syria’s Hussin Al-Masri who controlled all of the rounds against Pakistan’s Mohibullah Bacha in his quarter-final contest.

Bantamweight (56kg):
Jordan’s ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist veteran Mohammad Abdelaziz Al-Wadi was enough experienced to beat Kyrgyzstan’s defending National Champion Mirbek Sherov in a tight contest and advanced to the semi-final of the Islamic Solidarity Games.
Turkmenistan’s Yakub Meredov, who is member of their national team since 2011, knocked down Iraq’s younger talent Jaafar Ali Al-Sudani in the third round and dominated his fight in Baku. Asia’s third guaranteed medal was delivered by Uzbekistan’s unbeaten WSB talent Abdulkhay Sharakhmatov who was too strong for Turkey’s Olympian boxer Selcuk Eker in the quarter-final stage of the Games.

Welterweight (69kg):
Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Confederation Youth Boxing Championships bronze medallist Ilya Ochkin won his debuting contest against Morocco’s new face Abdelkabir Bellassek and continued his winning path against Pakistan’s Arshad Hussain in Baku. The final verdict was unanimous decision to the 21-year-old Kazakh boxer who is guaranteed medallist in the Islamic Solidarity Games.
Uzbekistan’s current National Champion in this weight class Bobo-Usmon Boturov finally received the right to show his skills in the international level and he dominated his second contest against Turkey’s Rio 2016 Olympian veteran Onder Sipal in Baku. Syria’s ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships bronze medallist Ahmad Ghossoun defeated Cameroon’s two-time Olympian Babou Mahaman Smaila with top performance.

Super heavyweight (+91kg):
Syria did amazing performance in the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Tashkent one and half week ago where the country claimed two medals and four quota places for the Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships. Syrian National Champion Manaf Asaad replaced Mohamed Mulayes this time but his efforts were enough to beat Turkey’s Eren Uzun. Jordan’s Rio 2016 Olympian Hussein Iashaish also advanced to the semi-final following his triumph over Iran’s Reza Moradkhani.
