Suyunbay and Fajardo used their strengths to win their contests rapidly in Astana

Kazakhstan’s Yelnur Suyunbay and Philippines’ Mark Ashley Fajardo were too strong for their rivals in the evening session of the second competition day at the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan.

Uzbekistan’s Sayat Ilyasov has just joined from the youth age group and the 19-year-old lightweight (60kg) boxer was expected a hard bout against Philippines’ Jericho Acaylar in the evening session. Ilyasov had the advantage after three minutes of fight but he had to keep the full focus until the very end of the bout to win this opener.

Kyrgyzstan’s Turgunbek Imankadyrov was bronze medallist in the Duisenkul Shopokov Memorial Tournament a few days ago and he had a hard tactical job against the taller Turkmenistan’s Muhammetguly Yklymov today. Imankadyrov did not have the speed to catch the fast Yklymov who exceeded the expectations with his performance in their lightweight (60kg) bout.

Tajikistan’s Abubakr Murodzoda, the former Asian Junior silver medallist, ruled the middle of the ring against Sri Lanka’s Yasidu Vidurinda Premaratna and he had the advantage on the scorecards. Murodzoda, whose father is a coach in the Tajik national team, did not give in 100% in this contest as this is a long championship but his efforts were enough to win their preliminary in Astana.

Philippines’ Mark Ashley Fajardo knocked out his first opponents in his previous competitions and he opened his campaign in Astana with a powerful appearance. The 19-year-old Filipino knocked down Jordan’s Abdallah Almharat twice and the referee stopped their light welterweight (63.5kg) bout in the second round.

Purevdorj Damdindorj won the Mongolian U22 National Selection Tournament earlier this month and he had the strong motivation to beat Vietnam’s Dam Ngoc Duc. The Southeast Asian boxer tried to keep the distance from the Mongolian but he responded in time to Damdindorj’s attacks. The contest was one of the closest ones in the evening session and the Mongolian light welterweight (63.5kg) boxer had the tight success after the bout review.

Kazakhstan’s Youth World silver medallist Yelnur Suyunbay is a tall boxer but Jordan’s 19-year-old Omar Al-Hadidi even had longer hands at the welterweight (67kg). The more experienced Kazakh reduced the fighting distance and smashed the boxer from Jordan who claimed a bronze medal last time in Astana as a youth talent.

Kazakhstan’s Sabyrzhan Akkalykov, the Youth World Champion, overcame Kyrgyzstan’s strong Eldar Turdubayev in the attacks and he countered his neighbouring rival with perfect timing. The Kazakh light middleweight (71kg) boxer had a competitive opponent today but he managed to win the preliminary battle by split decision.

Gulsevar Ganiyeva and Thipsatcha Yodwaree both impressed in the junior and youth age groups but the two promising stars had to meet in the first preliminary round of the women’s light flyweight (50kg). Yodwaree was better in the first round, but Ganiyeva stepped into the gas in the second but due to the Thai boxer’s great finish, the Uzbek lost her contest by bout review today.
