Strong finals at the Turkmenistan Youth National Championships

The Turkmenistan Youth National Championships was held in Ashgabat where the 2006 and 2007 born boxers were on the spotlight.

Turkmenistan reached historic results in the recent ASBC Asian Youth & Junior Boxing Championships in Astana last November and the country is ready to repeat the same strong performance in the new edition. Turkmenistan will send a huge delegation with 21 boxers to Astana, Kazakhstan later this month.

Turkmenistan was near also to qualify boxers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games through the Asian Games and the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event but three of them missed their last challenges.

Asghabat’s Resul Arslanov was only a silver medallist at the 2022 Turkmenistan Junior National Championships but he earned the first gold medal in the youth event following his success over Dashoguz region’s Nurmyrat Saparov at the minimumweight (48kg).

Lebap region’s Asian Junior silver medallist 17-year-old Sanjar Hamrayev was the main favourite at the flyweight (51kg) and he accomplished his goal against the Junior National Champion Shanur Artykbayev in the final.

Ashgabat’s Meylis Shadurdyyev caused one of the sensations in the Youth National Championships winning the bantamweight (54kg). He defeated Jeyhun Dovranov in the final while the top favourite, the Asian Junior silver medallist Abdalla Hojayev earned only a bronze medal in this competition.

The Junior National Champion Mekan Sabyrov had a crucial battle in the final of the featherweight (57kg) against the Asian Junior bronze medallist Seyitjan Babajanov but he managed to win their contest.

Ashgabat’s Ysmail Gurbanberdyyev was gold medallists in the junior age group and he had the routine to beat Kerim Rakhmanberdyyev in the final of the lightweight (60kg). Annageldi Jumamyradov achieved the lone gold medal for the Mary region, he defeated Mergen Hojamammedov at the light welterweight (63.5kg) final. 

Dayanch Durdynepesov became Turkmenistan’s first ever ASBC Asian Junior Champion in 2023 but he claimed only a silver medal in the Youth National Championships. The 17-year-old welterweight (67kg) boxer lost to Maksat Hojiyev of Lebap region in the final.

Ashgabat’s Abdyrakhman Yklymov, the Junior Nationals silver medallist, switched his result into a gold in this national event, he defeated Yazmyrat Babishev in the final of the light heavyweight (80kg).

Ashgabat’s Ashyrgeldi Nuryagdyyev has strong family connections to our sport, his elder brother Nuryagdy is member of the elite national team. The 18-year-old talent was too smart and strong for Resul Hasanov and he claimed his next national title.

Ashgabat’s Mustapa Muhammetdurdyyev was bronze medallist at the 2023 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships and he dominated the heavyweight (92kg) in the national event. Dashoguz region’s Mekan Durdyyev won his next national gold in the heaviest weight class, he was unstoppable for Mezhnun Annamuhammedov.
