Star line-ups in the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament in Guwahati

Another two sessions were held in the fourth competition day of the 2nd edition of the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament in the city of Guwahati, Assam where the winners remained their chance alive to win their titles. Mary Kom, Amit Panghal, Shiva Thapa and many of the stars advanced to the final of the Indian Open in Guwahati.
The 2nd Indian Open International Boxing Tournament is holding for the women’s elite and men’s elite boxers in Guwahati after the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships. The competition is supporting the boxers to prepare well to the upcoming AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships and AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships.
The city of Guwahati hosted the 2017 edition of the AIBA Women’s Youth World Boxing Championships 13 months ago where India earned record number of five gold medals. Guwahati is the host again in a top international competition and Assam region’s biggest city welcomed Asia’s top boxers this week.

India’s boxing icon Mary Kom defeated a top rival and advanced to the final of the women’s flyweight (51kg)
India’s six-time AIBA Women’s World Champion Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte moved up to the flyweight (51kg) and met with her top national rival Strandja Memorial Tournament winner Nikhat Zareen in an important semi-final. The Indian boxing icon impressed in their meeting and used her quick attacks to overcome her 13-year-younger rival in Guwahati. Mary Kom felt the support from the local crowd and she was able to keep her rhythm to win the semi-final. Mary Kom’s final opponent will be India’s Vanlal Duati who surprisingly eliminated AIBA Women’s Youth World Champion Jyoti Gulia.

A sensational final will be held at the men’s flyweight (52kg)
India’s defending Asian Games winner and ASBC Asian Champion Amit Panghal had to meet with a top national rival in the semi-final of the flyweight (52kg) but he was able to manage his success over Lalitha Prasad Polipalli Guwahati. Another Indian star boxer in this weight class AIBA Youth World Champion Sachin Siwach Singh advanced to the final of the division. Sachin used his longer hands to keep the best fighting range against Philippines’ Asian Games silver medallist Rogen Ladon in the quarter-finals and he has done the same tactic in the last four against Commonwealth Games winner Gaurav Solanki.

India’s Kavinder Singh Bisht and Gaurav Bidhuri advanced to the semi-finals at the bantamweight (56kg)
India’s new bantamweight (56kg) sensation Kavinder Singh Bisht won the Gee Bee Tournament in Helsinki two month ago and eliminated Philippines’ Asian Games bronze medallist Mario Fernandez in the quarter-finals of the Indian Open. The 24-year-old boxer defeated another experienced rival former WSB boxer Madan Lal in the last four winning the bout by split decision. He will be facing for the gold medal with Thailand’s ASBC Asian Champion Chatchai Decha Butdee who triumphed over Hamburg 2017 AIBA World Boxing Championships bronze medallist Gaurav Bidhuri in a superb contest.

Manish Kaushik vs. Shiva Thapa in the final of the men’s lightweight (60kg) once again
India’s Manish Kaushik defeated former ASBC Asian Champion and two-time Olympian Shiva Thapa twice in the recent one and half year and claimed silver at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. The Indian boxer will be meeting with his main national rival Thapa in the final of the men’s lightweight (60kg) in Guwahati which could be one of the most anticipated fights in the Indian Open. Kaushik controlled all of the rounds of his semi-final against a young hope Ankit and secured his place in the final. His top rival Shiva Thapa had a European opponent on Day4 but he dominated that fight against Poland’s Krystian Szczepanski. Thapa defeated Kaushik in their last meeting at the Indian National Trials on March and their next fourth contest are coming soon in the finals.

Philippines’ Eumir Felix Marcial won his semi-final by KO
Philippines’ Eumir Felix Marcial had to miss the last edition of the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok but the Asian Games bronze medallist boxer is attending in the Indian Open International Boxing Tournament this week. The 24-year-old Filipino middleweight (75kg) boxer spent only a short time in the ring and knocked out India’s Manjeet Panghal still in the first round. India’s No.1 in this weight class Ashish Kumar surprisingly achieved medal in Bangkok last month and he was slightly better than Thailand’s Aphisit Kanankhokkruea and marched to the finals.
