The Sri Lankan had national events in the previous weeks, like the Jayaweera Meeting and the T.B. Jayah Memorial which supported the decision of the coaches to select the team.

Their junior girls, as Herath Mudiyanselage Nethmi Ashinshani Herath (46kg), Nethmi Avishka Gimhani Ganhewa Gamage (48kg), Palkadewaththe Gedara Nethmi Sadeesha Perera (50kg), Malithi Sri Punsara Thiththagalla Gamage (52kg) and Nanayakkarawasam Karijjawattage Manuthmi Saseka Nanayakkara (57kg) are their good hopes for a medal.

Zaid Abdur Rahman claimed a silver medal in the Jayaweera Meeting this year but he changed that result into a gold in the T.B. Jayah Meeting. The 14-year-old boy could be a surprise at the schoolboys’ 35kg weight class in Al Ain but Kande Gedara Mudiyanselage Manusha Bandara (37kg) also has the strong technical skills. The 15-year-old Binul Dulanda Dewasiri Narayana won all of the recent national competition and he is a secret hope at the junior pinweight (46kg) in Al Ain.
