Siyovush Zukhurov increased the number of Tajikistan’s boxing Olympians up to three

Tajikistan qualified two boxers to the Tokyo Olympic Games but due to the injury of Australia’s Justis Huni, the country received an extra quota at the super heavyweight (+91kg). Their multiple National Champion and ASBC Asian Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Siyovush Zukhurov can join to Bakhodur Usmonov and Shabbos Negmatulloev.
The Tokyo Olympic Games will be starting with its first competition day on the 24th of July and all of the teams are in the final stage of their preparations to be in top shape in Japan’s capital. Tajikistan prepares to the Games with the instruction of their coaches, Mr. Parviz Akhmedov, Mr. Mirzo Shamsiyev, Mr. Khurshed Djurayev and Mr. Abbos Negmatulloev.
Tajikistan won two important Box-offs in the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Amman, Jordan and those resulted for them flight tickets to Japan’s capital. Some of their further women and men boxers were near also to qualify for the Olympic Games but through the BTF Ranking, Siyovush Zukhurov became their third Olympian boxer.
Tajikistan competed first in the Olympic Games as independent nation in Atlanta 1996 where their Khurshed Khasanov won one contest until he was stopped by Hungary’s eventual winner Istvan Kovacs. The Tajiks claimed altogether one bronze medal in the boxing events of the Olympic Games, their woman star Mavzuna Chorieva earned that in London nine years ago. Tajikistan had one quota place in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games therefore their three spots in Tokyo are impressive development.
Bakhodur Usmonov achieved gold medal at the Bangkok 2019 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships following he joined to the international stage in 2013. Usmonov claimed silver in the 2013 ASBC Asian Junior Boxing Championships and joined to their elite national team in 2017. The 24-year-old lightweight (63kg) achieved bronze at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and he is planning to show his amazing technical skills in Tokyo.
Another 24-year-old boxer, Shabbos Negmatulloev trains with his father Abbos and achieved his first big international success at the 2013 AIBA Junior World Boxing Championships which was a bronze. He claimed silver at the 2014 ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships, and gold at the 2018 FISU University World Boxing Championships. He is an attacking boxer who delivered several tournament titles at the light heavyweight (81kg) and could be a surprise in Tokyo.
The super heavyweight (+91kg) in the previous editions of the Tajikistan National Championships were dominated by Siyovush Zukhurov who qualified for the 2010 Youth Olympic Games at the age of 17. He competed in the previous editions of the ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and after 11 years of international experiences, he can box also in the Tokyo Olympic Games.
