Sixteen Cambodian boxers including three girls returned to their national training camp to Phnom Penh

The Cambodian national team returned to their training camp to Phnom Penh and began the preparations for the planned international events. Sixteen female and male boxers are preparing in the national training camp with the support of four coaches. 

The Cambodian boxers have got long term strategic goals the 2023 Southeast Asian Games which will be held in the country at the very first time. The management of the Cambodian Boxing Federation developed a long term strategy in 2016 to develop boxing and make it more popular in the country before 2023. The last international participation of the Cambodian boxers was the 2019 Southeast Asian Games which was held in the Philippines.

One of the best Cambodian boxers in the recent two decades Mr. Ven Sophal works as head coach in the training camp together with Chey Nara. Two additional coaches as Mr. Rolando and Mr. Sous Linna support the work of the boxers in the preparations.

Sixteen boxers have been invited to the national training camp by the Cambodian Boxing Federation including three women to start the preparation to upcoming events. The Secretary General and the engine of the Cambodian Boxing Federation Mr. Sophoan Buy arranged the preparation camp for the boxers.

Cambodia never had any super heavyweight (+91kg) boxers in their national team in the past but their US-born Eric Pen joined to the squad and to the preparations. He is already 28-year-old and had only six bouts but the 101kg weighted boxer has got strong stamina to represent his country in the forthcoming international events.

The Cambodian women boxers joined to the international events in 2015 and attended also at the Ho Chi Minh City 2017 ASBC Asian Women’s Boxing Championships. Three of their talents including their most experienced ones, Nao Sreypov and Vy Sreyros were also invited to the training camp.

Sao Rangsey and ASBC Asian Youth Boxing Championships quarter-finalist Bang Non both were born in 2000 and together with their even younger teenage talent Penh Vanthung are the next generation of Cambodian boxers who have got already international experiences. Sim Viseth, Vy Sophors and Yon Darath also attended international events mainly in neighboring Thailand.

The last edition of the Cambodian National Boxing Championships was held for the elite women and male boxers in the capital city of the country in Phnom Penh on November 2019. The management of the Cambodian Boxing Federation is planning to host the next national event in the end of the year in 2020.
