Six young Uzbeks earned gold medals at the Feliks Stamm Memorial Tournament

Uzbekistan earned half dozens of gold medals at the 38th edition of the Feliks Stamm Memorial Tournament in Poland. The young Uzbek talents as Asilbek Jalilov, Dilshod Abdumurodov, Adkhamjon Mukhiddinov, Khavasbek Asadullayev, Turabek Khabibullayev and Nusratbek Tokhirov all won their weight categories in Poland.

The competition was held in a historic city, Pultusk which is located near to their capital and previous host, Warsaw. The 38th Feliks Stamm Memorial Tournament took place in all of the 12 female and 13 male weight categories. Mr. Feliks Stamm was a legendary boxing coach in Poland who built up fantastic teams in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s.

The Feliks Stamm Memorial Tournament is one of the most prestigious elite tournaments in Europe. The top Europeans from England, Ireland, Azerbaijan, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Scotland, Poland, Wales, Hungary, France, Italy, Croatia, Moldova, Germany and several others are competing in the event.

Uzbekistan’s ASBC Asian U22 Champion Asilbek Jalilov will be turning to 20 later this year but he had the speed and routine to beat Poland’s Jakub Slominski at the men’s flyweight (51kg) in Pultusk. The second Uzbek, who earned the title in the Feliks Stamm Memorial Tournament was Dilshod Abdumurodov at the lightweight (60kg) where he defeated Ireland’s Davey Joyce.

The bronze medallist from Amman, another U22 boxer, Adkhamjon Mukhiddinov moved up to the light welterweight (63.5kg) but he had a comfortable victory in the final against Ireland’s John Paul Hale. Two Uzbeks advanced to the final of the middleweight (75kg) and among them surprisingly Khavasbek Asadullayev defeated the ASBC Asian U22 Champion Nurislom Ismoilov unanimously.

Uzbekistan’s Youth World Champion Turabek Khabibullayev and another promising teenage talent from the same 2004 born age group, Rakhmatullo Boymatov joined the finals of the light heavyweight (80kg) in Pultusk. Khabibullayev, who earned a silver at the Bocskai Memorial earlier this year, had the stronger shots and the effective counter-attacks to beat his teammate. Nusratbek Tokhirov won the sixth Uzbek gold medal, he stopped Ukraine’s Volodymyr Kushnir in the final of the heavyweight (92kg).
