The Japanese southpaw used his height advantage and experience in the first round to catch Piggott with multiple combinations. The Aussie boxer had to go to the medical corner and the ringside doctor stopped their unequal 50kg contest.
The Philippines has strong traditions in the smallest weight class and their new hero, the 17-year-old Nick Anjelo Payla eliminated a tall South Korean boxer, Kim Ji Hoon in the first competition day. The Indian southpaw replied to the Dutch actions and she controlled the first and second rounds with effective punches from her best fighting range. The 18-year-old Dutch made a great finish in the third round but Devi’s advantage was strongly enough to beat Vogels in this women’s bout.
India’s ASBC Asian Junior Champion Vini used her excellent tempo to catch Sweden’s Lili Arman and she managed her pathway to the next level at the women’s 60kg. Following Yu Miyata’s unexpected loss in the women’s 48kg weight class, Japan’s Sakura Okuyama was better than Australia’s Georgia Lawson.
