Shan Wenlong, Yeleizhada and Samozhonov were the stars of the youth event in Urumqi

The youth finals delivered world-class level of battles at the famous 3rd Belt & Road International Youth Boxing Gala which took place in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China.  

The Chinese Boxing Federation and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Municipal Government were the organizers of the Festival in Urumqi.

Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, China, Cuba, Greece, Hungary, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Yemen all decided to send strong teams in Urumqi.

The venue of the event was the Xinjiang International Boxing Training Centre in Urumqi which has excellent facilities. The official and full name of the competition was the Belt & Road International Youth Boxing Gala and Sports Lottery Cup, Xinjiang, China International Boxing Invitational.

China’ Youth World Championships quarter-finalist Zeng Weimei won the Belt & Road Youth Boxing Festival in 2024 and the 18-year-old talent repeated that performance. She faced for the title, Pakistan’s new female youth sensation, Ayesha Mumtaz and she won that meeting by 4:1 split decision.

The next female winner was Liu Shu from Chongqing who defeated Neimeng’s Tian Jun at the flyweight. Chongqing’s next success was achieved by Yang Sirui at the women’s youth bantamweight (54kg) after beating Xinjiang’s Yipalguli Yiming.

China’s Wang Qiuzi exceeded all of the previous expectations when he stopped Philippines’ the ASBC Asian Junior Championships competitor 18-year-old Nick Anjelo Payla at the men’s youth flyweight.

Shandong’s Shan Wenlong eliminated Aidos Usenov of Kazakhstan in a hectic semi-final and he continued his winning path against Kyrgyzstan’s Asian Youth bronze medallist Umar Orusbayev in the final. Shandong’s next ace, Zhang Xin was too strong for Li Jiaxing at the featherweight (57kg) final.

China’s Jialehasi Yeleizhada lives and trains in the Xinjiang region and he kept the lightweight (60kg) title on home soil against Jiangsu’s Peng Zhengbei.

Kazakhstan’s Arnur Rustem was slightly better than Cuba’s Teudys Christian Brooks in one of the best finals of the event. Khamza Maksatuly defeated his teammate, Beibarys Tazhibek unanimously and he bagged Kazakhstan’s next gold medal in Urumqi.

Two top Xinjiang-based boxers faced in the final of the middleweight (75kg) and surprisingly Yeerasili Ashan was able to beat the more experienced international pugilist, Refukaiti Rehemanjiang by 3:2 split decision.

Kazakhstan’s ASBC Asian Junior Championships bronze medallist Vladislav Samozhonov is a big prodigy in the 2008 born age group and he controlled the exchanges against Shandong’s Wei Zonglin at the youth super heavyweight.
