Shakhbakhsh, Mousavi and Gheslaghi lead the Iranian team at the AIBA World Boxing Championships

Mr. Alireza Esteki the head coach of the Iranian elite national team and their management selected nine boxers to the upcoming AIBA World Boxing Championships. Iran’s best hopes are Daniyal Shakhbakhsh, Seyed Shahin Mousavi and Meysam Gheshlaghi in the world event which will be starting with its first competition day on October 25.

Iran qualified two boxers to the Tokyo Olympic Games through the Asian & Oceanian Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event and both of them will be attending in the forthcoming AIBA World Boxing Championships in Serbia’s capital. The Iranian national team earned several medals at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and their boxers proved developments following the training camp in Uzbekistan.

Iran competed several times in the AIBA World Boxing Championships in the recent decades but their boxers never claimed medals yet. Some of their top boxers reached the quarter-finals in a few editions but a medal is still missing from their collection yet. The event will also support the preparation of the Iranian boxers to the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games.

Iran’s featherweight (57kg) boxer will be Sajad Mohammadpour who returns after a few years of break to the national team but the 27-year-old hope has got all of the experiences to win contests in Belgrade. Daniyal Shakhbakhsh is only 21 but he qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games and claimed silver medal at the Dubai 2021 ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships. The young lightweight (60kg) boxer has got amazing technical skills and footwork which he can show also in Belgrade.

Iran’s light welterweight (63.5kg) boxer will be Ashkan Rezaei who is 22-year-old but has got experiences from youth and elite championships. Moslem Maghsoudi is multiple National Champion in Iran and competed in the major Asian events the recent two and half years. Seyed Shahin Mousavi claimed medals in the recent ASBC Asian Boxing Championships, qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games and he was quarter-finalist also at the 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championships.

The Iranian boxers are always competitive in the heavier weight classes, their ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships silver medallist Meysam Gheslaghi can use his pressurizing tactic in Belgrade where he could be a new sensation. Ali Jamaligaleh joins to the national team at the very first time in the new cruiserweight (86kg) while Toufan Sharifi and Pouria Amiri competed in various international events in the previous years.
