SEA Games medallists won the titles at the Cambodian National Championships

The Cambodian National Championships was a selection competition in Phnom Penh and among their most experienced boxers, Vy Srey Sros, Sao Rangsey, Nov Sokty, and Nat Seaknin all won gold medals.
The country hosted the 2023 Southeast Asian Games in Phnom Penh which was a great success for the country after six years of hard preparations.
The number of the boxers exceeded the figures of the previous years and altogether 12 boxers earned their gold medals in the National Championships.
The team from the Ministry of Interior claimed five gold medals in the National Championships and topped the standings among the squads. The Ministry of National Defense had seven finalists but their boxers claimed finally three titles and their team ranked as second.
Teams from the Artillery Command Base Club, the Kampong Chhnang Province and the Anlong Kom Mean Chey Club earned the further national titles. Altogether boxers from 16 teams shared the 36 available medals in the National Championships.
The youth boxers could return to the National Championships after a break and Dos Silin won the first category, the men’s flyweight (51kg). Bros Samnang (54kg), Seng Sak (57kg) and Pung Pech (60kg) won the further youth national titles in Cambodia.
The SEA Games bronze medallist Vy Srey Sros is a well-decorated female boxer in the national team and she controlled all of her contests at the women’s bantamweight (54kg).
The Ministry of Interior’s Nea Sovann bagged the first elite male title in the Nationals, he defeated Khon Tith Chichka in the final of the men’s flyweight (51kg).
The 24-year-old Sao Rangsey is Cambodia’s best boxer at the men’s bantamweight (54kg) and he accomplished his goal in the event after beating an Asian Youth Championships competitor in the final, Bang Non.
The Ministry of Interior’s promising Nov Sokty moved up two categories since his last national appearance but he was able to manage to win the featherweight (57kg) following his success over Vanna Ly Heang.
Nat Seaknin reached his career highlight in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia where he earned a bronze medal. The 30-year-old boxer was unstoppable at the men’s lightweight (60kg) and he triumphed over Puch Thearith in the final.
Vy Sophos has also international experience and he had the skills to beat Oum Chamroeun at the welterweight (67kg) final. Hun Kim Heang was bronze medallist at the 2022 Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam and he moved down to the light middleweight (71kg) but he was strong enough to win against Hong Nouch.
