Sarsenbek, other Asian women tally winning debuts in youth world tilt

Kazakhstan’s reigning Asian youth champion Ulzhan Sarsenbek and fellow Asian women bets overcame their opening bouts in the IBA Youth World Boxing Championships 2022 on November 16 at the Ciudad Deportiva Camilo Cano in La Nucia, Spain.

Sarsenbek, who is also a former ASBC junior titlist, earned the nod of all five judges against Chiu Chih-Lin of Chinese Taipei in the featherweight (57kg) division.

Thailand’s Asian youth silver medalist Natnicha Chongprongklang came through with a second round stoppage over Romania’s Nicoleta Banciu in the same weight class.

Uzbekistan national team rookie Mukhlisa Khushvaktova introduced herself on the international stage with a 4-1 triumph against Brazil’s Nicoli Vitoria De Oliveira in bantamweight (54kg).

Chinese Taipei’s Yu Chen Yu also emerged victorious in bantamweight after edging out Ukraine’s Adriana Kotovych via 3-2 split decision.

Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tran pulled off a 4-1 win against Turkey’s Edanur Kilicci in light flyweight (51kg). A total of 66 preliminary bouts took place in both the women’s and men’s divisions on the second day of competition.
