Samadova and Kholova won their finals by stoppages in Khudjand

Mizhgona Samadova and Bibinashastamo Kholova not only achieved gold medals at the Tajikistan Elite National Championships in the city of Khudjand but both women boxers proved their strong potential for the next international events.

Khudjand, previously known as Leninabad, is located in North Tajikistan, it is the second largest city of the country. Khudjand is also one of the oldest cities of the Central Asian region which was established more than 2,500 years ago during the Persian Empire.

The best boxers of the country, both men and women, participated in the new edition of the National Elite Boxing Championships. The Tajiks amazed in the last edition of the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Colombo claiming gold medals.

Altogether 19 female and 112 male boxers participated in the Tajikistan Elite National Championships in Khudjand. The participating teams were Dushanbe-1, Dushanbe-2, GBAO, Khatlon-1, Khatlon-2, Sughd and SHNTM.

Khatlon region’s Zarina Jalilova has some international experience and she worked hard in the final of the light flyweight (50kg) to take the first title. Jalilova had another opponent from the national team, Shukrona Shovaliyeva but her strength decided their final meeting.

Khatlon region’s Fariza Yokubova stopped her semi-final opponent, Dildoda Asakulova at the bantamweight (54kg), and she had to meet for the title an Asian medallist, the young Khangoma Isoyeva. Yokubova found the best fighting distance in the first round against her promising opponent and she earned a gold medal in the Nationals.

Mizhgona Samadova of Dushanbe is one of the stars in women’s boxing in Tajikistan, she claimed medals in the Asian Boxing Championships, Strandja Memorial Tournament and other important events. She had a quick featherweight (57kg) final against Mekhrona Zukrulloyeva of Khatlon region with a stoppage success.

Tajikistan’s most experienced female boxer, the three-time Asian Championships bronze medallist Shoira Zulkaynarova moved back to the lightweight (60kg) but for the first time, she was not able to take the national title. Zulkaynarova lost to a younger talent from the Khatlon region, the U22 national team member, Bibinashastamo Kholova.

Dushanbe’s 29-year-old Nilufar Boboyorova, the quarter-finalist of the Women’s World Boxing Championships, was too strong for Sadullo Shokhnozai at the light welterweight (63kg) final. Khatlon region’s Malika Nozimova had a tight 4:1 victory over Dilnoza Murimova of Dushanbe at the welterweight (66kg) final contest.
