Sakysh and Kadamduan made strong debut in their new weight categories

Kazakhstan’s Anel Sakysh and Thailand’s Rattapol Kadamduan were brilliant in the evening session of the ASBC Asian U22 & Youth Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan today.

Tajikistan’s promising Dovud Makhkamov competed in the last edition of the Men’s Elite World Boxing Championships in Tashkent and he had a victory in the preliminary stage in Astana. The 21-year-old Tajik used the whole area of the ring to land his shots from his best range and he had a dominance against Mongolia’s Sainchuluun Javkhlanbayar at the light middleweight (71kg).

Thailand’s Rattapol Kadamduan competed in the Boxam Tournament and spent his time in the Spanish International Training Camp earlier this year. The experienced Thai southpaw kept his Uzbek opponent, Murodbek Bakhriddinov on long successfully in the first and second rounds to take the lead on the scorecards. The 22-year-old Thai light middleweight (71kg) boxer landed an amazing right jab, left hook combination in the third round and his strong performance guaranteed his success in Astana.

Uzbekistan’s Youth World Champion Fazliddin Erkinboyev amazed in his first elite and U22 year, he remained unbeaten in the international stage. Both boxers are southpaw and have excellent eyes to find the best moments to score in this final level light heavyweight (80kg) quarter-final. The 19-year-old Erkinboyev had to do his very best against his neighbouring rival today to join the last four of the weight class.

Kazakhstan’s Yerassyl Zhakpekov claimed his first Asian title at the age of 15 as a junior boxer and after seven years of hard work and more than one hundred international contests, he is a favourite again in a top event. Zhakpekov had a competitive rival today, Tajikistan’s Shakhboz Khaitov therefore he gave in everything until the last gong to secure Kazakhstan’s next medal in Astana.

Turkmenistan’s Artykmammet Shokhratgeldiyev represented his nation at the 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying Event in Busto Arsizio two months ago and the 20-year-old talent tried to use those experiences in his quarter-final in Astana. His opponent, China’s Ashan Rezibieke found the best fighting range in the end of the first round and his counter-shots to take his nation’s first male U22 medal.

Nepal’s Susma Tamang was a historic silver medallist in the 2023 ASBC Asian U22 Boxing Championships and she competed also at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. Nepal’s new sensation moved ahead from the first seconds against Mongolia’s Sodon-Od Binderiya but her opponent handled all of the tactical jobs today.

Vietnam’s Pham Thi Quynh Anh had a hard battle against Singapore’s Wann Chee Wan Kei in the quarter-final of the women’s minimumweight (48kg). Singapore’s 22-year-old best female boxer attacked more in the second round in comparison to the first and she remained her chance alive to win their contest. Wann had some nice actions in the third round as well but Pham’s responses paid off in the last minutes to win this quarter-final bout.

Kazakhstan’s Anel Sakysh moved up to the featherweight (57kg) in the previous weeks but she proved her extreme punching power in the first round against Vietnam’s Nguyen Huyen Tran. The referee counted the Vietnamese boxer once in the first round and the 21-year-old Kazakh continued her strong performance against a good rival and she managed to win this contest by unanimous decision.
